Image Image Three days left to make your mark!

Danno once told me that paraskevidekatriaphobia means fear of Friday the 13th... and we're not talking the movie. Add that one to your spelling test. And a Friday the 13th during the October season?! Hooboy, it's probably a double whammy. On average, the 13th falls on a Friday once every 212 1/3 days - so you could have one to three of them in a year. Geeky trivia! So far, I see that Richard T called it out with his 13,131 m palindrome!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

3.7 MM Ed
1.65 MM Steve W
550 K Kevin

Thanks, everyone, for erging with us!

David T 2,500 m
Louis 6,000 m
Kevin 6,102 m
David W 6,450 m
Tom M 6,500 m
danwho 11,011 m ...a palindrome that's a double aught double!
Richard T 13,131 m ...a lucky 13 palindrome!
Image Derric 21,097 m ....he moons us! Can't wait to see what happens with the Holiday Challenge!
Image Steve W 27,078 m ... he moons us, too!
Image Ed 42,105 m ...and the moon was almost full !

Whatever your superstitions might be, one has to wonder if the Chicago Cubs have passed their previously owned curse on to the Washington Nationals....four teams left standing...and while the Rockies aren't one of them, there are a lot of fine players to enjoy watching (no matter how many times I yell "get that pitcher out of there!").

Image Image The Challenge end is near....

Several teammates routinely erg mega-distances (kind of like bg runs those ultras) of half-marathons and more. Sometimes, as seems to be true with half marathon warrior Derric, these sessions develop into habits...and then, even when you're kind of wanting a break, you don't want to break the string of days that you've done that distance. You may not pass this way again, so keep after it. Of course, you (the generic "you" - not just Derric) could find that you have amassed upwards of 180 half marathons for the season because naturally! you will start thinking about how many you could actually get done when playing out the remainder of the season. There are 199 days remaining in the 2018 Concept2 season.

Unexpected News: We need some special eights

Postby Kona2 » October 15th, 2017, 6:49 pm

In my time in the communications chair for the Lunies, I've had to write at least four postings that are about the loss of a teammate....and this is another one.

Richard T (Drivetofast) passed away yesterday afternoon following what sounds like a massive heart attack. His neighbor gave me a call to let me know so that I could let the team know that we had lost a teammate. No matter how much exercise you do, you cannot always outrun other factors - something we all know well. For all the times that Richard T was kind of prickly and combative, he also did a lot of the right things for people. We didn't always hear about those things on the forum. Initially, Richard had indicated privately that he was going to leave instructions for his dogs to be euthanized upon his death. I didn't want to see that happen, and asked the neighbor what was happening -- he did not leave those instructions. Two of his three dogs have been placed, and young Corky (not quite two) is at a trainer's house learning a few manners.

Richard's neighbor, Gretel, said Richard called these pups his millennials - and didn't believe in disciplining them much. After all, most pups outgrow some of the craziness starting in year 3. They were always ALWAYS with him. And now life has changed as it often does. Richard went out to lunch with his neighbor and another friend, and began complaining about excessive heat and chest pains shortly after lunch. The neighbor dropped him off, and when he didn't answer his phone a couple hours later, went in to check on him. He was gone and had been for a couple of hours.

We never know how much time we are given in this life, and so we try to make what we do count and memorable (one way or another). It's time for us to row or bike or ski-erg some special eights in Richard's memory, if you choose to do so, ..and hope that Corky finds a home, too.

Rest in peace, Richard T.

Richard was a kindhearted, generous person. As a recipient of his kindness and generosity, I will miss him.
Here's hoping that Corky finds a good, new forever home.
