 Missed that on the first read - I just saw names I recognised from the forum but didn't read the surname closely either!

some serious meters from Jack, Henry and Harry at the top!
(Henry you are really working hard at the moment)

But not when compared to the famous (and amazing) DarleneB who has reached 640k by day 9

Ch Lindsay, I am missing this years winter/racing, several reasons. But do train, 50/50 ski/rower, not much speed, but no easy sessions either. Row in our gardenhouse, so cool, but still soaked after every sesh.

Henry is never far off that 1:51-3 pace for an hour on either machine!

I must admit to slacking a bit in the Challenge this month, having so far only reached Team position 15 and 26k metres.

I am suffering since the New Year from some motivational problems stemming mainly from long working days and OAT around 0 degC and 4 at best. As the only place I have to erg is in my unheated garage, the prospect of doing a session has been less than appealing.

I'll try and get more done this weekend and in the remainder of the month.

As a new member of the Team, I thought an introductory post might be in order.

I'm a 51 yo Husband and father of two teenage boys living outside of Atlanta, GA. My rowing experience began in 2003 - should probably type erging, as I have never rowed on water. I began my initial training under Paul Smith's tutelage and rowed successfully (which in my mind is simply regularly) for a couple years. I tend to be a bit on the fluffy side, and rowing allowed me to drink and eat whatever I like and maintain a fairly athletic build. I fell out of rowing (trading what was working on a quest for the ideal) and began high intensity interval training in order to complete a Tough Mudder event. Continued the HIIT until my body reminded me I was no longer 20, weighed 220 lbs (quite lean) and the extreme training resulted in shoulder surgery. I've spent the last 5 months in physical therapy - actually only 3 months therapy - the other two months, my tendency towards fluffiness overwhelmed my gumption.

My new PM5 was just delivered (my PM2+ had crapped out) and I am re-mounting the beast. I am no longer on a quest for 10% body fat (which for me was more than completely unrealistic to begin with), but I simply would like to return to five days a week at a brisk pace for 30 to 45 minutes. My current goal is 9k meters a day, alternating steady pace every other day and 3000x3 intervals on the even days. I plan to "test the waters" this weekend and hopefully begin to make some sort of contribution to the team some time next week.

Finally - this team thing is entirely brand new to me, and I have no idea how to participate (beyond signing up, which I have done). I don't want to overcommit or overestimate any contribution I might make, but I can see real value in supporting a team - in the early 2000's I hid in the dungeon (my basement) and no one (except my wife) knew my rowing even existed. I'm hoping the PM5 submits my efforts - but I may need some coaching on that - we'll know more after the weekend.

Oh, and if anyone knows how to reach Paul Smith - I would like to send him a quick note of appreciation for introducing me to erging, and apologizing for ever thinking there might be a better form of exercise (for me). He use to be quite active on the old forum, but I have not been able to identify him on here.

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to be part of the Flyers.

Hi Luke, very welcome, just ease in, read a bit around on the forum.

There is the c2ctc, in which we like to compete as a team.
Individuel the nonathlon.
Logbook from concept2 to log your rows.
Ergdata, app to log your training.

Etc

Welcome Luke.

There are no official expectations from new members other than throwing some metres into the pot, maybe popping onto the thread occasionally to update everyone on how things are going, and hopefully adding a time to the monthly Cross Team Challenge if it fits your training schedule that month.

I was a complete mis-sell to the team when I joined. I came off 1.2m-1.5m annual volumes and promised similar contributions, but then had 2 kids in 25 months, and completely lost my way on regular training. Have been making my comeback since August, and have been enjoying the progress back towards my old times.

Cheers
Dave

Luke, you have an online logbook and you are on the FF VTC roster. No meters recorded at this date for current season or the challenge? Do you have the C2 utility loaded on a pc and are you using a USB cable or USB stick to upload workouts from the PM5 to the utility and logbook?

feb challenge if you missed it

Zoe has given us an early notification of Isenhurst Rowers February CTC:
500m 2 min rest, 1250m 2 minute rest, 500m - total of 2250m. Standing start for the first interval, rest of them can be rolling starts.
Looks like another great preparation for the 2km.
