55' on the stationary bike again. 23.54 miles, then a 5' cool down that put me at 25 miles total. My HR monitor battery is starting to go and it kept getting hung up on 165 BPM for the majority of this workout. In reality I think it was significantly higher, most likely in the 180's as I was going pretty hard. Oh well...

Total of 180 miles for the week!

Made a 1K PB today: 3:18.1 r35. Felt great whole way. May be some more to chew off. Gets me 94th percentile in age group.

Thanks, old friends Mike and Jack! Jack - I think my base and power have improved with the OTW. Not sure why but maybe because I didn't have a monitor in my face every row? I'm really excited for erg season this year now.

It's on my mind Jack. It would be a fun experience to be middle of the pack at a much bigger event! One of the guys at the rowing club I'm a member of is either running it or helping to run it.

Got a new FM PB 2:49:39 but it was a real struggle as I think im fighting off a cold or virus. I know that a 2:47 is possible and maybe even a 2:46 but it started to go wrong with 15km to go.

Despite the PB it was a real disappointment as I planned on doing two FMs (one as a PB and the other a lot steadier). Looks like I'll have to settle for a HM on Monday and Wednesday and maybe a 100km on Friday if this illness doesn't get to me

After only 500k this season I decided to go for the crazy bear challenge in order to have an anchor point to try to build up that old engine again. Managed 5HMs since 12th of November, #6 scheduled for tonight.

A PB's still a PB. Don't feel beat up because that is a very impressive time. All the more impressive that you managed it whilst feeling unwell!

Yesterday:
30:00 with 4:00 SS and 1:00 all out. No rest.
Target was sub 1:43 r30 for the 1:00s.

30:00 7254m @2:04.0 24spm

4:00 924m @2:09.8 18spm
1:00 295m @1:41.6 30spm
4:00 916m @2:11.0 18spm

Average for SS was @2:11.1. Average for 1:00s was 1:41.6 (Woohoo!). Very happy with how that went. I think the PM messed up the last set as I swear it was the fastest as I saw 1:40s and 1:41s most of the way and I was holding about 1:37 for the last 15 seconds. Oh well the 1:00s reached way above my expectations!

Today:
Tried a 100m test. Equalled my previous PB of 17.6 which was good to see that my power on shorter distances hasn't been lost. I reckon that PB is being beaten next attempt.
10k OTW in the double. 4k warmup + 2 3k pieces. Wasn't too bad.
45:00 on the erg SS. Holding 2:09.5 rate 18. First thirty minutes were at about 2:13 but I was feeling good with 15 minutes to go and dropped it to about 2:08/2:07 for the last fifteen. Last 1:00 I raised the rate to 30 and tried a sprint. It was probably at about 1:44. I guess you could call it a PB because it was the first time I've done one but I'm sure I could drop that split by 5-7 with rate up and a proper effort.

So what does it mean in terms of 2K? Looking at a very good predictor: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/app.php/page/pace-predictor

If one takes current times for 5K,6K, 30min, & 10K and puts them next to 3:18.1, 2K predictions range from 7:00 (5K) to 6:57.1 (10K).

Using the previous 3:20 for 1K, predictions range from 7:02.3 to 6:59.8. Which is right on the money for actual 7:01.7. In other words, latest prediction has credibility.

@ Scott, never apologise for all the writing: it's great to see you are improving so quickly & consistently and that is exactly what this forum is for. We're all 100% supporting each other.

Fantastic results and very consistent too, which is also a very good sign. Those PBs of yours, in all distances, are going to keep on dropping.

Maybe Marius should be worried after all

Jim - I feel good about it. Need to be smart about training between now and februrary - I feel my base is good and I want to keep it. I won't be OTW as much so will need to do smart erg sessions. But to not have any sprint training so far this year and to nail a solid PB on 1K gives me hope that maybe the "big goal" will be nearer to my reach!
