We all have to start somewhere and many of us have been doing this for a long time. You'll get better and more fit by challenging and pushing yourself every day. You're going to make the biggest strides in the beginning and it's very exciting to see huge jumps in fitness. Just keep at it!

Had another London trip this week so missed three sessions. Just a steady 30r20 to get back in the groove.

30 min - 7761 - 1.55.9 - 20

06 - 1552 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 133 end HR
12 - 1552 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 140
18 - 1556 - 1.55.6 - 20 - 144
24 - 1552 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 146
30 - 1548 - 1.56.2 - 20 - 149

Not quite sure what happened to split three and five? PM5 didn't say 1.55.6 or 1.56.2 at the end of each split, all clicked over at 1.55.9!! Very strange, there would be no way I'd row such a messy session

I had a relatively good week of erging but I forgot to put anything down in this forum. Oops! I skipped my cardio this morning (60' bike at 5:30am :? ) and I have a big lift tonight. I might do two separate steady state workouts tomorrow to make up for it. I'm strongly considering unpacking my racing shell to do an OTW workout on Saturday. It's been too nice in Philadelphia to not get outside.

Of course, I'm not 100% certain what everyone's goals are, but it will be interesting to see if months of following various plans pays off. If not, it will not be from an absence of hard work. Unfortunately, I have to remove myself this year from the "does training equal results" question. Too many issues, including sickness, have cropped up. Hopefully, everyone's training will be verified on race day.

Jim sorry to hear that you are having to back off - never a good thing to call but no point in making things worse. Everyone is different of course but my decision to follow a plan was a result of setting the Boston race as a very specific goal. Been lucky to race a fair bit mainly because of the masters games movement here - about 100+ times I guess in the past ten years including a lot of multi event days (and maybe beaten I think 8 times in all mostly early on) . The past 6 months has been an experiment/act of faith of course but close to answering the question about whether it has been worth it. I have never trained to a plan other that to have fun and go hard so interesting to me too! I had to try to find a way of breaking through from a fairly high point - not a lot of blue sky so time will tell.

I used to in high school and college. I live about 30 minutes from there but now I work about 30 minutes in the opposite direction so I can't row there anymore. I row for a club in New Jersey on the Delaware River.

Absolutely terrible session. Had about 20 minutes spare so hopped on and did a quick warmup, which felt surprisingly weak. Planned to do 5k at r20 and a minimum of 200w thinking that would be easy. Started off around 220w feeling fine ...for about 2 minutes... then it all went downhill from there.

Sweating buckets, fan was at the wrong angle, couldn't keep rate consistent, had to keep stopping, couldn't keep the watts up. Just sucked. Got near the end and got a bit of a second wind and was pulling around 230-240w and even with a high rate sprint finish I failed to get under 20'

Maybe getting sick, who knows.

Decided this will be my last post in this thread for a while - not a flouncy exit, just going to stop posting basic SS workouts here as they no doubt bore everyone and don't bring anything interesting - plus I think it may sometimes make me push a bit harder than I should just to not post a crappy time - even though there is absolutely no obligation to post anything. Just going to try and get on with it for a bit and do my low rate steady state 10ks as often as possible.

I'll start posting my workouts again when I start doing something vaguely interesting!

Hang in there, aussieluke! No one performs at the same level all year long. Take some days off, do something enjoyable, and try again next week

I will stay around I just need to stop myself posting in this thread when all I'm doing is the same steady state every day.
I need to stop taking a picture of the monitor at the end of every workout too I think I'm driving myself a bit nuts with it.

I'm also getting back into running again after a few patchy months, so my rowing is no doubt going to take a bit of a hit with that. Just need to get on and do it at the pace I know is right and stop trying to push things.

Never had chance to get a row in yesterday!!!! but did do 30 mins of various heavy weight lifting compound exercises.

Today (chest day)

3x10-9-9 barbell bench press
3x9-9-9 incline barbell bench press
2x50 push ups
3x10 handclap push ups

And even had time to get 5k in today, yay :D (Feels great to go sub 20:00 these days and consider it a nice comfortable workout :) )
