G-dub wrote:Richard, it sounds like a worthwhile "grease the groove" sort of a thing. I might give it a try - I am not sure I fear the 2K, but it does seem to get too much nervous energy. Mostly for me it has to do with a certain time achievement that I have built up in my head too much. That and not wanting to fail!

I was kidding of course about percentages, we are what we are - heck, there are many would see 172 2Ks at 7:30 and think that was pretty good too! Do you do it every session or do you stick it on particular sessions?

'Expectations' and 'Fear of Failure' are the two most often 'killers' of a maximal 2k time's imo and I've been guilty of both of them several times over  :D

No I don't do a 2k WU for every session mainly, due to time constraints, I've honed some of my training programme sessions to include integral warmups so I'll only do these 1-2 times a week normally, as a precursor to something like 8x500s, 5x1ks or similar.

Great point Anthony. It is what you give it that counts.

Thank you for the kind and positive comments on my last report AnthF, Nick, Ed, Mike, and Paul, all very much appreciated.

Today’s torture was 4 x 1k.5’r.

1) 1:46.0……35spm
2) 1:46.0……36spm
3) 1:45.9……36spm
4) 1:45.0……36spm

Average…..1:45.7….35spm. Drag Factor 130

This was 0.7 on average pace faster than last time I did it 10 days ago so still chipping away.

The Pete Plan says this is around 2k time plus 1 second so a sub 7 looks on at the English champs on the 5th of February……although ‘’looking’’ and ‘’doing’’ are two different things!

Sadly tried this but as the old blogs were hidden behind a login they weren't saved, nor were the forums themselves. Only the main page.

Day10 of ergo endurance cycle and steady 1h row #5. Have been doing either 60 min Z2/3 or 80 min Z1/2 on kayak-ergo in between the rows. I badly hope to get back on the water soon
Tomorrow an ergo-free day with just some weights..

I changed drag from 163 to 133 for this one.
Got bored and went gradually a bit faster for the last 10 min and last 500 m at 1:45/25 SPM

Time- Meters - /500m -Watts -Cal/Hr - s/m - HR
1:00:04.6 15,681m 1:54.9 231 1094 19 143

10:00.0 2,615m 1:54.7 232 1097 18 130
20:00.0 2,613m 1:54.8 231 1094 19 136
30:00.0 2,604m 1:55.2 229 1087 19 139

1:00:00.0 2,665m 1:52.5 245 1142 23 154

I also installed RowPro 5 on my Mac to serve as additional distraction, but it crashed at 50 min with the data gone :-( I wonder , if this is a common "feature" of rowpro on mac?

50 min easy piece split into two with a c. 90 sec break for water/ removal of shirt etc

Wore a hrm today and not for the first time the break seems to clearly mark (or cause???) the point beyond which the hr drifts pretty dramatically. Even with a drop in pace. Odd.

25mins 2:11 r20 avg hr 139. Held 141-143 bpm comfortably, at a very stable 2:11 for the last 10-12mins

90sec rest

25 mins 2:14 r20 avg hr 152. HR hit 147 within a minute or so.157 bpm in final mins. 156 is top end Ut1 for me.

Bit of an easier one today, 500 felt good after my pieces last night so did one 'fresh' today. Only about 90% with a bit of a wind through the last 150m

500m Target 1:35 Result 1:30.9 r39 100m Splits 1:29.5 r40, 1:33.0 r35, 1:32.5 r36, 1:30.5 r40, 1:29.0 r44

Then 45' spinning on the bike. Just keeping the blood flowing.

Then 2x500 first 250 @ 1:29 then paddled it out.

Good to know i've got a sub 1:30 there for the taking. probably a 1:36ish 1k too. Hoping to get a long one in tomorrow AM and some mid distance intervals tomorrow PM..

happy birthday Glenn - nice piece of work with a strong finish

my IP says the same thing of course - 6x 1' AN (goal is 110% of "dream" 2k of 350 = 385)
The IPL this month is 1 minute so thought I would add that in - hoping >350m by the end of the month without the training
