How many people use rowpro?

Postby Adonay » November 13th, 2017, 5:41 am

Hi,
after 1000km on Concept2 on the gym, I decided to buy one.
I'm thinking about rowpro, and the general question is are there always people online?
Looking at the Oarbits it would be commonly at 18:00 GMT. But I guess there are more people than in Oarbits?
Can someone explain it to me? :)

(sorry for mistakes, usually I don't use english)

Hi

I expect there are a lot more offline users than what you're seeing online. I bought RowPro years ago mainly for offline use, but did the occasional online row. It can help make rows more interesting even if you're slow like me and not able to keep up with the speedy rowers online.

I can't always pin down an exact time to train, which is why I tend to prefer offline use, but might look out for online options during the holidays. Offline, the ability to race against your past rows can be quite motivating, and worth the licence for me.

Cheers

Thanks for reply Dave,

maybe offline will be enough for me, but competition makes me more involved ;)
I'll try it for free 15 days and will know everything I want.
Hope some day we can row together as I guess it's possible to make an online host and invite friends. Speed is not all, I think fun and regularity is the key.

Did you buy a life time licence? I don't know how often upgrades are coming and are they expensive and required.

Cheers

i mostly row offline with rowpro.

i guess i like to be flexible - more of a jump on and row than look at the clock and wait for an event and then jump in...

unless theres some fun stuff - crazybear, etc..

I'm another that uses RowPro offline only. The tables of stats are nice and you can have many more custom row sessions set up than can be stored on the PM. The log is effectively duplicating the C2 online log function but at least its easy to move workouts from place to place. It does crash or stop recording results occasionally - on my old version about 1 in 20 sessions, always on intervals. The results are rounded differently to the PM which can be annoying - although I have to admit a .1 difference (time or distance) isn't really material! I've very recently had a couple of goes with Ergdata instead of RowPro (since you cant do both). The data side looks good (which is my priority) but it will be a shame to loose the screen link to my big screen TV if I decide to stop RowPro for good.

I did buy the lifetime licence, but can't remember when I did it. I've had RowPro since 2004 when it was moving from v2 to v3 if I remember correctly, so the upgrades don't come too frequently! There's normally a discount for upgrading old versions, which I'm happy to pay to keep a small business offering a useful service.

Also an offline rower here but I like the features in RowPro and more interesting than just looking at the PM on the rower.
However I’m stuck with the last version currently not working and faced with paying a fair amount to upgrade for no new features that are of interest, so I’m not sure if a permanent licence is worth it as it’s only permanent for the version you buy.

And it's not working even offline? Then you may be right. I have few days left until free trial expired so I will think about it.
Edit - I guess you have lower version than 5.x?

Version V4.3 is faultless, it doesn't always pay to run the latest version, all you really want is others to row with and a rock solid connection from start to finish of the row.

Yes there are plenty of people using it, the big problem is that they either row offline or setup rows at the last second so you cannot join in. If you look at the results there are considerably more rows showing than what is being scheduled.

Its a great bit of software, its a shame the perception out there is that its all about "Racing" when its really about consistent training and finding motivation because you row with others that become a bit like a "Gym partner" so it ensures you don't make excuses and you get your butt on the seat and row.

Each to their own but I cannot even row now without getting online using it.

Carl, I enjoy reading your rowpro threads. I've had rowpro for a few years, but have now only just started getting into erging. I'm now on my week 10 of the basic Pete Plan, but I'm still fairly slow. Is there any point to me trying to connect with others for these long steady state rows (10k next week) if my pace is only 2:15? I think I would find other rowers somewhat motivating, but how would I even be in the same "water" with folks rowing sub 2:00?
