Another late starter.... first week of October this year we got our C2 and I started rowing about 30 mins a day - now up to 560 - 65 mns. I also started eating less and drinking less alcoholic beverages and a lot more water. I als skipped my daily whiskey and reduced half bottle of red wine to one and a half glass. No snacks (like the chocolate I was addicted to) and a lot of fruit for lunch.
Result: 7 kilos in 7 weeks down on my weight. :)
It is not so much the diet type but just eating less and changing habits I think.

I think eating the good foods helps performance a lot!

Eat junk and the performance definitely suffers. Take one of my erg sessions not long ago for instance, i had a medium size pizza the night before and rest day from the erg, yet when i done the session the next day i was blowing up all over the shop at paces i can normally hold comfortably (had to back off by 1-2 secs per 500m). Now i stayed off the garbage and eating chicken, eggs, steak, veggies, fruit, nuts, and now having great sessions again!
