Because our old forum was repeatedly hacked, we've had to move to a new system - this unfortunately will require all users to register again - there was also no way to safely move the topics and info on the old forum over.
we're working on turning the old forum on long enough for people to collect their things and pack up

but it won't be open for posting again.
any questions on using the forum or creating a new user profile, please post them here, as others are bound to have the same questions.

Hi, Bill.
Tough times, eh? Think you will have spentt some hours with all these hackers
See it's the same format as in the UK-forum. I've read over there and agree it would be a good idea to unify the UK and USA fora...
Don't know if I will get used to these smilies
Hope we will be able to rescue some interesting infos from the old forum.
Good luck!

Hi Bill.
When I registered, I got:
General Error
Could not connect to smtp host : 97 : Address family not supported by protocol
DEBUG MODE
Line : 112
File : smtp.php
,
although when I came in again, the registration obviously worked...do I (or you) need to do anything?
Thanks for getting this back up so fast!
Alissa

Hi Bill,
It is great to see you back in business again. I hope that you have a really secure hand hold on this one - and a solid belay as well.

I don't know why, but my username was the same for both UK and USA forums previoulsy and it worked here without new registration. in fact the error message above seemed to be related to trying to register as a "duplicate".
Cheers!

I had to register again and I got Alissa's debug code message too, but otherwise appear to be registered.

I got the same stuff. Tried to register again from scratch, but got the message that the user name and e-mail address had already been taken. O.K., must already be registered - don't sweat it, just "go with the flow." So I went for log-on and had no more problems.

P.S. Goodbye withdrawal symbols. The Forum junkies can get our fix again.

I always used the "Active Posts" to display the old forum (this is going to get confusing, since now we have two "old forums"). Is there anyway to get that feature back?
I don't really like having the topics and posts scattered in all the different separate forums, so prefer to view them lumped together as one.

In the upper right hand corner, small print, main page (where all the forums are listed) there is a "view new posts since last visit" or words to that effect.
Is the previous forum the "new old forum" or the "old new forum"?

The smtp.php error you're getting is part of a measure I took to stop any spam issues before they began. It appears I may have been a little over-enthusiastic, so I'll back off a bit and with luck you won't see these problems again.

It's on now - sorry, I'd configured it but didn't notice the bit where it says "enable"!
