I never use the pace boat for any row - I just keep an eye on my average split pace to see where I am at. I probably analyze the monitor too much, I rarely look away from the screen and the information.

Re: do we need a heart rate monitor for sure while rowing?

I have never even tried a monitor and don't really plan to. I had a thought here and there that I might be missing out on something by not using it but I know what my paces are and what's hard, medium, easy and such - just never thought knowing my HR would make much difference. I find them useful t...

And no mater how many times you prove to yourself you can do it and you finish strong showing you had more left you still get those doubts - the mind is such a factor and we can't completely master it. Yeah. I wish I could say that if you do this or do that it works everytime. Unfortunately the inn...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

In a “perfect” 10k, imo, the forth 2k will be the slowest, this will also be the most painfull way  Steady hard the first 6/7k, from there trouble starts, the final k you give it all, rating up and bringing the pace down again. Yeah, this is exactly what I find with anything over 10k. The dou...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Arrggh. Thought I'd give this a go, but started just a little too quick (the idea of 14km was enticing). I suffered crises of confidence regularly from about 36mins in. Got through all of them until 7 mins to go, and it just seemed too long. HD'd for about 40" and then managed to get going again. t...

Re: disappointing, and yet very satisfying season

The trade-off was a good one! We all hate missing workouts and/or being kept from training but....some times it can't be helped and time with your daughter and helping out other kids is more important than some meters on the ERG. That said you already got the mindset to get back at it, so just trai...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Thanks for the replies Stu, Henry, Martin - I'll aim for something like 7:15-7:20 next time I try this then and have 5 minute rest. That will work, use the last rep to push it a bit. This session can be really nasty, it can be used to build mental strenght. Its not so much about the absolute speed,...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

2k warm up followed by 4x2000 with 4 minute rest. It seems people do 5 mins rest so might try that next time. Wasn't sure how to pace it so aimed for 7:30 2k and made each one. Would describe it as 'not that difficult, but not a breeze either' and think I could drop a bit. I enjoyed the longer inte...

Re: Stroke Rate

Hello, I've been looking at a no. of workout sessions and notice them suggesting stroke rates often around 24, my stoke rate is way higher, see below, this is steady session and you can see the S/R is around 40 which is typical for all my sessions. Does this point to me doing something fundamentall...

As I'm not so good at intervals I think I'll try 2k pace for the first two and see what's left for the last one.
Good idea, by halfway through the second rep you'll know what feels possible although the five mins rest is quite misleading: it still feels horrible!

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

New PB for 60min! +260m. Was aiming for @2:12 before I sat down, but going a bit faster felt fine, then I just carried on to the bitter end. I wonder how long I can keep on improving as age competes with beginner's gains. Huge progress!! Great going on the PB. Hobbit... this is a total co-incidence...
