Re: geriatric aspects of resistance
Dr. Jonathon Sullivan owns a gym named Grey Steel Strength and Conditioning in Farmington, Michigan dedicated to the older crowd. He is an ER doc by trade and has a book due out in a couple of months on strength training older folks that should be good.
He has some videos posted on youtube.

Re: Kettlebell Workouts
I really like the original "Kettlebell Muscle" program from Geoff Neupert.
it is a double kettlebell chains and complexes program that should work well with rowing.

Re: Weight gain, if needed
You need to eat more and you probably aren't eating nearly as much as you think you are.
I was 6'5" 180 lbs at 18. By 20 I was 6'7" 230 lbs. I learned how to eat more.

Re: Battery alternatives for power hungry PM5s?
I have had to replace batteries in my PM5 twice in the ~14 months of owning it. Both times the left battery (when looking at the batteries with the panel off) was the only one low. I am testing them using a ZTS pulse load battery tester. If this happens a third time, I plan to contact C2 and ask wha...

Re: Adidas Powerlifting 2.0??
I have a pair of Powerlift 2.0 shoes I use for squatting. Never considered trying to row in them. They are flexible enough that they would probably work. Although, they aren't the most comfortable.
I just row in my running shoes, New Balance 993s.

Re: UPDATE to Concept 2 Logbook
Anyone having trouble viewing it in Firefox? It's really messed up for me. Looks right in Explorer.
Really upset about losing the text line. I had lots of info there for each workout that was easy to see.
Must be the same techs who have done such a masterful job with the PM5.

3rd workout with v20 and it failed to save. Pressed menu to save and it just flashed to the main screen. Workout did not save to usb or memory.
I have the new battery cover in place.

Re: PM 5 crashes
They need to change the PM5 instructions.
Instead of press menu to save after completing a workout, it should be press menu and pray it saves the workout.
Right now for me it's about a 1/10 chance the workout is lost using V19.

Citroen,
I appreciate you trying to help. I'm just frustrated.
I swore when v19 came out that I would never try a beta version again. The beta versions seemed to have many more problems than fixes.

Will C2 ever get the PM5 software fixed?
I bought the machine in November with v15 software. I am now running v19. All of the versions have had bugs. Just lost another workout today. Didn't save to the PM5 memory or the thumb drive.
Please C2, hire someone competent to get the software fixed.

Re: Intervals and heart rate recovery -- getting older
I recently reviewed my training notes from back in 1998 when I was racing bikes. The max heart rate I saw on the bike was 193 and my resting rate was 38.
This year I have seen 175 on the erg and have a resting rate of 45. My range has held up better than expected.

Re: Advice on losing weight
Just remember that diet influences weight and exercise influences body composition. People often assume the reverse. Dr. Hamwi's method is a good guideline to aim for. The Hamwi method is used to calculate the ideal body weight of the general adult. For men, the Hamwi method ideal body weight is 10...
