Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?

RR, I'll be 72 next month, so mon ami Alain Mangin will be a favorite in my division. Lots of good 70+ guys around theses days and I'd suppose that it will take 7:15 or better to make the podium. Meanwhile I'll be in my first OTW race two days from now. Our Military/Veterans Mixed 8 will be in the C...

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?

RR I get down to the Charles River in Boston two or three times per week. Usually an Eight Tues and Thurs, and Single sculling on Sundays, but I've also been in an occasional double, quad, and 4+. Lots to learn, but I'm having a good time with it. Never could have found the time while I was still wo...

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?

Rick, How are you? Older and slower! Otherwise not too bad. I retired in August 2018 and have been enjoying a life of leisure, and by leisure I mean erging, running, cycling, and I've taken up OTW rowing a few days a week. It would be great to catch up with you if RR Jr's schedule allows. And any h...

Model D for Sale

Barely used Black Model D with a PM3. About 3 years old, bought by an 80-year-old lady who ended up not using it as much as she had intended. Probably only some 100,000m meters or so of use. Asking $600. Unfortunately she can't ship it. It would have to be picked up in West Newbury, MA, USA. Or I'd ...

Re: 2020 National Championship (USA)?

The new venue in Boston earlier this year was good. At least I thought so. I'll do it again, especially since it's within an hour's drive for me. I'm also hoping to go to Paris for the World Championship if I can figure out a frugal way to do it. I may never visit Paris at all if I don't. Must try t...

Re: Forum Flyers

Moving right along. Got in my CTC early this month instead of at the last minute. Happy for now with 7,127m. Not sure if I'll try it again before the end of the month because I really don't like rowing for time instead of distance. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does. :?

Re: Forum Flyers

Hi. Remember me? I've had a busy year and hardly got in any exercise from the end of April (broke my right foot in the backyard when I missed a step and rolled the ankle/foot) until the end of August (Closed down my business, sold out the inventory over a two-month period, donated stuff, filled a 3-...

Re: World Rowing Indoor Championships

I'm hoping to get out there. Must research the costs of a place (with access to an erg) to stay and plane fares.

Re: erging with one leg

After a knee operation a did a similar thing to what Carole did, except that I put a roller skate on the defective leg. I've seen others use a slippery metal or plastic plate under the bad leg to help it slide along the floor. It's better than nothing. Be sure to do plenty of stretching for the lowe...

Re: Need monitor for Model B

eBay or Craigslist is probably your best bet to find someone who's upgraded from PM3/PM4 to a new $180 PM5 and is selling their old monitor. Do you know if there are issues with a PM3 or PM4 that had been on a Model C or Model D working on a Model B? It seems to me that others have had such issues ...

Need monitor for Model B

Anyone got a spare they don't want? The PM1 on my rickety old Model B has given up the ghost. New batteries only last a couple of workouts then go blank. If anyone has a bargain monitor that would work I'd be a buyer. A retrofit PM5 would apparently cost $180, and would undoubtedly be worth it, but ...

Re: Rowing --> Running

I've been rowing now for three months. I feel I've made some strides in conditioning. Next week we are taking a family vacation to California. I'm assuming our condo will not have a rower. I'm also assuming that my wife will want to take advantage of an early beach season, and go for a jog on the b...
