Re: Heart Rate - SkiErg vs Running or Cycling

I bought Ski Erg last month to complement trail run training. Greg in customer service recommended starting a variable interval workout. So I’m doing a 1000M-900-800-.... down to 100M w kettlebell swings in between. Resistance set @ approx 3-1/2. Been starting out w low 100’s HR with the longer int...

Re: question about "peak power" workouts

Because a max pull contest is a complete waste of time and tells you nothing about what you're going to do for 2K. The primary goal with ALL serious rowing is to minimise your 2K time. Nothing more, nothing less. The ergo was designed as a winter training tool for when the river was frozen (or othe...

Re: question about "peak power" workouts

Maybe you're doing something other than trying to find your peak power. I'm just following the instructions to find peak power. "Peak Power is measured with a 10s erg test. On a CII set the drag factor to 200. The high drag factor is necessary to provide adequate resistance so that you can hit a tr...

Re: question about "peak power" workouts

If you don't have the strength to reach peak power with the machine at max drag you'll never know what your peak power is. In you case you don't have the strength to hit your peak power with that high a drag factor. I don't have the strength at that drag factor. I do do a workout that uses max drag ...

Re: question about "peak power" workouts

I'm a new rower, here! I’m following Ed McNeely’s “peak power” workout here which seems simple enough, but I have a total noob question: When you start doing your 10 sprinting strokes, does that include the number of strokes it takes to REACH 90% of your peak power?? Because it takes me upwards of ...

Re: optimal stroke rate and settings on SkiErg

I am new to the SkiErg, and I am trying to determine the best settings for an optimal workout. When I use the low settings, I tend to run fast stroke rates, 60 spm or more. As I increase the settings, I run lower stroke rates, around 40 spm or less. Any suggestions? I like the fan setting off 10, w...

Re: No 10/20K ranked pieces?

I agree. It's odd that they doubled the erg 2K but have not seen fit to add doubles of the 5K and 10K erg rankings. I find the inclusion of the 40K strange as it corresponds to nothing in the C2 world. It's only relevance is that is the Olympic distance triathlon bike leg distance.

Re: Have you seen how much demand there is for home fitness equipment?

Glad I built up my home gym over the years. Model C erg, Skierg, treadmill, elliptical (never used, given by my neighbor) bike and stationary trainer, 70lb set of powerblock dumbbells, and a 5' bar and around 100lbs of weights. :D I never did like going to a gym. It always felt like an inconvenienc...

Re: Getting started with health trackers PM5, Apple Watch, HR etc.

HR based calories burned is going to be closer to the actual as long as you have your correct age, weight and gender for whatever HR app you're using.

Re: Best single exercise machine for a home

I moved into a new house with a spare bedroom on the first floor. It's big enough to hold my home office gear in only half the room. The remaining space (14' x 7') will be empty. I'm thinking of putting an exercise machine in there. I could use it to fit in 20-30 minutes of exercise when I have fre...

Re: Running to race pace conversion

Does anyone have a link or document that can help me figure out the pace I need to go on the rower when I’ve been given it for running? E.g. 400m @ 4:49/km (1:55 is a lot easier on the rower) I used to do both a while ago. There is no conversion as running is largely dependent on your weight wherea...

Re: Claw grip vs. fist grip on handle

Thanks all. I think the issue might be I am shorter and weigh less that most. My hands aren't huge so the stress on my fingers must put a strain on my forearms is all I can think of. Always cognizant of (as Glenn says) leaving my hands behind, but the sheer force of my leg drive must be too much fo...
