There was a comment about what drag factor people use and someone commented that I use max drag - not true. For 2k's I set my drag at 125 (or at about a 5 setting). For a sprint, I bump it up to 140 but never max.

Re: How much improvement is possible in a few months?
First - I wrote a longish response a while ago and I don't see it so sorry if it ends up being a repeat. I find this topic very interesting and we sort have went down this path once before. My two cents - I love the ranking and I am competitive by nature so being able to see how I compare to others...

Well done! This will be a great record to go for in 9 years.

Re: Rower's elbow
In addition to having my thumbs on top of the bar, keeping my elbows close to my side during the pull is another big key - don't have chicken wings.

Re: Tapering for a 2K
There is not a single answer - you need to consider the condition of the individual. I competed in the CRASH-B's this past February. My training the week before leading up to the race: Sunday, February 13th - Off Monday, February 14th - 30 minutes farlek (900 m easy / 100 m hard) - 8,583 total meter...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I gave it my best at the CRASH-B's - was on pace until the last 350 meters and then went down bad. My strength has always been with the longer pieces. I am working on being a better sprinter.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
It is a valid record. The piece was rowed on a Model D and in a public area. Check out the 40-49 records later today or this week when updated. I rowed a 6:00 flat piece at the CRASH-B's this past February.

Re: Rowing vs running times
I am a 42 year old 220 lb male who consistently runs and rows (indoor). My times:
5K rowing best time in 2010: 16:10.10
5K running best time in 2010: 19:55.03
The sub-20 minute 5K is really good for me but not even close to my rowing times.

Tapering
One week before the CRASH-B's. I have never had a good plan for tapering on the erg. Any suggestions or past threads that might be of help?

Stellar. Great work. What did your 1000 splits look like? I came through the first 2K at 6:37, the second 2K at 6:32, and the last 2K at 6:27. I had a bit too much at the end. I'm quite impressed. You've probably got another 5 second drop in you, just from energy partitioning alone. Don't you think...
