Re: Concept2 Utility 7 maintenance features

Mat- I too was having problems with the Concept 2 Utility crashing when I tried to upload my workouts both to my on-line log and as a CSV file. I tested both my HP desktop computer as well as my Windows Surface Pro 3, each running Windows 10 and had the same issues with the Utility crashing. My solu...

Re: Force study

I just found this Youtube video on the physics of rowing on water. I would think much of what is discussed regarding the forces applied in a boat (aside from the oars) would also apply to the erg. I think I found the answer to my original question starting at about 5:02 and continuing to 5:42. I sta...

Re: Force study

Not to beat this topic to death, but I just read the following rowing technique article- http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/jan/11/rowing-fitness From step 4 Catch and Early Drive Phase "Before you start the stroke you will feel suspended, with hardly any of your weight on your seat." If t...

Re: Force study

Alissa- Thanks for the link. Very good tool for me to use on a regular basis. At my age, back swing at the catch is going to be difficult. I can really feel it in my hamstrings. Stretching is a must, but may not give me much in the way of improvement. As long as I row, getting the correct catch posi...

Re: Force study

hts and jamesg- Thanks for tips on getting more from my legs and fixing poor rowing form. I spent my entire workout today in an attempt to "fix" my problem(s). I worked mostly on body swing and making sure my arms moved away on the recovery, lean forward and then start to lift the knees. It's rough....

Re: Force study

Bob S.- Good to know. Thanks for the video review. Some, not all, could be because I was in a warm-up and not very loose. That's no excuse for poor form. I'll work on all suggestions, making a list and keeping it with me as I row. P.S. I'm very tight in the body swing at all times, even though I'm s...

Re: Force study

gregsmith01748- Thanks for the book resource- Rowing Faster. I'll definitely give that some consideration.I just find it odd there seems to be no data whatsoever for vertical load on the seat in any illustration or resource that I can find. If the ultimate method to generate power for rowing comes f...

Re: Force study

hts- Per your request, I tried to video my 5 minute warm-up. Sorry for the strange angle and that I cut my head off, but it was close quarters for the camera. Thanks for asking me to do this. I believe I see some faults already that I didn't realize without the video. I'll wait for other to comment ...

Re: Force study

jackarabit- Love the comparison of the seat to a launch pad and landing zone. Priceless. My thought is that lifting the torso and body using the foot stretcher could be a very subtle effect, hardly noticeable, one that would only appear when collecting vertical load bearing data from the seat but so...

Re: Force study

Carl Watts- I hope to continue my same training program for a long time. Aside from a few vacation days this winter, I don't see why I can't keep putting in the time and effort. I may be impatient too, looking for results too soon. I would myself more as a Clydesdale than a Quarter Horse; I can do t...

Re: Force study

Lindsay- Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a tendency to over analyze things, rowing included. While I've logged some long meters and tried to improve my rankings, it seems I'm stuck at the same 2:00 average split per 500 meters. I'm not going to be a great rower at my age, height, weight, etc. but ...

Re: Force study

Bob S.- Good to know about foot position on the foot stretcher. I think I'm okay there and I try to consciously think about not shooting the slide. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'm really concentrating on my core to keep it in place with arms extended during the drive. I certainly can say m...

Re: Force study

Watch the technique video that summarizes my question extremely well. At about 1:57 into the video, the author begins to discuss using body mass during the rowing stroke.
