Problem with Erg
Hello! So, I have recently started observing a problem with one of my teams ergs. It has an older PM3 (firmware 303, so circa 2008). The problem comes for setting intervals. If the flywheel is at all moving when you go to set an interval and hit the check mark it shows "Interval 0" and you cannot st...

Re: Erg supplement for OTW Rowing
As a rule during the season I'll mix in a couple of erg workouts on my own outside of OTW practices. I make sure to keep the intensity low, light steady state between 30-45 minutes with stroke rating 18-20. If I'm feeling worn out I'll blow the session off or I'll take it even easier. Chances are yo...

Re: Lightweight Rower
If you're feeling tired and beat up then take a little time off from the double-sessions. Hard interval training takes a lot to recover from. It might feel weird, but I bet if you take a step back you'll start to pick up speed.

Re: summer workout
SwedeRow, That's a very interesting quote! Thanks for posting it. Physiologist/rower Stephen Seiler posts about rowing specific strength training here: http://web.archive.org/web/20071019040515/http://home.hia.no/~stephens/rowstre.htm He feels that it does help, however he doesn't have any studies r...

Re: summer workout
Hi All: Interesting reading. AS an older man, I often wonder how much lifting I should be doing. For reference: I only get into a lifting routine infrequently these years... but I do heavy labor (farm work). A summer work-out involving lifting might also include hiking with a loaded back-pack for a...

Re: summer workout
That's a lot of volume and intensity! You either have circuit style lifts, or hard intervals every day. As well as a lot of steady state. If you can handle that, go for it. But I know that plan would bury me within a couple weeks. Sometimes more isn't always better.

Re: need some advice for the summer.
That makes some sense. A lot of rowers get really tired of erging over the summer, so it's pretty common to spice up training with other activities.

Re: need some advice for the summer.
Congrats on the workout! I bet you'll drop time on the level 1 workouts pretty quickly. When you haven't done high rated pieces in a while you're always a little slower. After a couple weeks the rating will be a little higher, and you'll have more power. Also, have you considered mixing in some weig...

Re: need some advice for the summer.
From my experience you can normally do 8x500 a good bit faster than 2k pace. Last winter I pulled an 8x500/3:30r at a 1:38.8avg, and a couple weeks later pulled 1:42.2 for a 2k. 3:30 is a lot of rest, and 500m is short enough that you're not gonna build up too much fatigue. I'd start out a second or...

Re: Ranger's training thread
As a big heavyweight, you have to row well to pull 16 SPI. In fact, as a heavyweight, you have to row pretty darn well to pull 15 SPI, and even pretty well to pull 14 SPI. ranger So, does that mean when you row races as a heavyweight you'll now be pulling 16spi? Also, what does that mean about Nav'...

Re: Classic vs. skate skiiing as rowing cross training
I personally believe skate skiing to be a slightly better form of cross training for rowing. It's more of a push with the quad motion, like rowing. Also, with classic skiing a lot of the time you'll be mostly just poling with the arms on flats. However, both work great for cross training, so it's no...
