Re: Fan recommendations?

I use a cheap (~$14 USD) 20” box fan. It works well enough for me.

Re: It’s been 20 years should I buy an erg

Kudos on ordering your C2. I doubt you’ll ever regret having done so. Here’s hoping you receive it before another wave of Covid lockdowns shuts down C2 production and distribution again.

Erging Shoes Question

I read the recent thread about what shoes people preferred for erging, but it seemed there were different kinds of shoes--like track, cycling and lifting shoes that posters recommended. I’m familiar with cycling shoes, but I don’t know anything about track or lifting shoes, so I didn’t really “get i...

I use cheap MTB with a high-quality saddle on a CycleOps gel trainer. For an economy rig, it works pretty well.

Re: Coming back after a layoff

I’ll be interested in saying what the experienced/knowledgable people (a group that I’m not part of) have to say, but I have to wonder about one thing. After a multi-year layoff, is moving up into hour-long sessions in >1 month maybe a little too quick to be hitting it that hard?

Re: New to rowing...

That photo is is worth a whole lot more than the traditional thousand words. Forgive my PC euphemism, but Ornish is one pudgy character. That jacket hides a lot, but I’d guess him somewhere in the high end of overweight and close to if not obese. I’m sure pix of him in full competitive cycling kit w...

Re: Clothing Question

Thanks for the advice and especially for the confirmation that I’m not the only one who get irritated by TheAlmightySpellChecker. I try to be at least a little bit articulate, but when The Mighty Machine keeps “correcting” me (despite its frequently being incorrect), I sometimes get irritated. Oh, w...

Re: Clothing Question

OK--thank you. I figured the cycling shorts would be wrong. That unique “chamois" of the cycling style shorts just didn’t feel right for a C2 seat. I’m glad I got that much right, which is an encouraging thing. I suppose after I spend ~$1K on a C2, worrying about spending another ~$40 on a pair of r...

Re: Clothing Question

I use a quality, dense closed-cell foam pad on top of the C2 plastic seat. The pad lightens up on hard seat-induced butt discomfort and I haven't had any problems so far with the boys wandering out of place and getting mashed, but so far I'm only doing 5-10 minutes sessions. I have a few pairs of cy...

Clothing Question

I'm presently just starting into using a C2 at a local gym, but I'll be getting my own C2 in the near future. Thus far, I've been making do on my short, beginner-type sessions with cheap generic gym shorts. I've read that wearing quality rowing trou (like those from JL Racing, Boathouse Sports or Se...

Re: Eating well and training hard but not loosing body fat

.....I cool down with 30 mins on a bike. If I put enough effort in, I can lose 2lbs a day, but not every day. I know their are a lot who will say this won't work, but "don't knock it till you've tried it." 2#/day? Yikes! Is that even safe? Do you make a point of eating so that you put it back on an...

Re: Does adding some cycling help on the erg?

It's good aerobic training and for sure two hours on a bike in the clean air is more to enjoy than two hours on an erg. I’m ~200 miles S of Montreal. Winters are sadly characterized by bike trails/paths unusable because of accumulated snow/ice and road riding made dangerous by snow/ice and hostile ...

Re: Does adding some cycling help on the erg?

..... alleviating the boredom of winter time indoor work outs on a trainer..... Any aerobic activity done in the proper HR range will certainly help to maintain cardio fitness. And if the goal is variety and to break up monotony; cycling is fine. I’m new to erging and I intend to spend this coming ...
