How to justify a PM4 upgrade

Cycling season is mostly over, so it's time to return to the ERG. I've now got lots of Garmin Ant+ enabled gadgets and am curious if the the PM4 can upload data to my PC (and RowPro) using the USB Ant+ interface that came with a Garmin FR60 watch (the interface looks exactly like a Bluetooth dongle)...

Opened it up and did some vacuuming, but I'm not sure how useful it was as there wasn't really any dust and things looked new. Verified that the shock cord is routed correctly. All I can think is that maybe the bearings aren't as they should be. Any visual way to tell whether the bearings need repla...
