Re: First 5km time- 18:19

Do you consider yourself slightly overweight? Is that 240 mostly muscle mass? Is your body fat under 18%? I'm 6' and weigh 185 and still considered to be overweight. I lost about 25 pounds and my times and endurance have radically improved.

Re: Total Quadriceps Tendon Rupture rehab....

@Gymvet...where did you see "one month full recovery?" I had a total and had a very aggressive rehab protocol from U of Wisconsin Sports Medicine. It still took 3 months for me to be able to get around and walk normally....even that is considered very fast. https://www.uwhealth.org/files/uwhealth/do...

Re: Biceps won't grow but forearms will

This guy has decent biceps and is a great rower....I met him at an event here a few years back.

Re: First Time Rowing Programme Suggestions

If the OP is a very first time rower, he/she will probably have no clue what a drag factor and a clean rower even is....see link below to better familiarize yourself with the settings. They are important.

Alternate rows with every other 200m palm up. Do pyramid dumbbell curls...start with 30lb to failure, then 25 and down. Concentration curls with 25lb at the end of each work-out to failure. Do super sets....go from bis to tris without stopping. I do a lot of triceps pulldowns and that sitdown tricep...

Re: Total Quadriceps Tendon Rupture rehab....

Jonzach....gravity is your friend....try sitting on a bench or some allowing you legs to dangle. Do some ROM up and down, but start slowly. Another thing that really helped my ROM was sitting on one of those Shwinn Airdyne old timey bikes. Start slow with the seat high enough to do a few revolutions...

Re: Total Quadriceps Tendon Rupture rehab....

Jonozach...your recovery protocol sounds archaic...I was at the physio 10 days post surgery and got to 90 ROM in 3 weeks. I was just in one of the Donnjoys from post surgery on. They removed it for physio obviously. I've never even heard of a hard cast application. Don't mean to get you down. All yo...

Parky...do you speak from experience? Maybe the Squirrel does not have access to an erg in his home. No driving allowed...this injury is no walk in the park. Worst one I ever had including Vietnam.

Re: Total Quadriceps Tendon Rupture rehab....

Greetings myopic squirrel....another Total Quad Rupture survivor here. I tore mine on 2/14/13 (you never forget)...I was 67 at the time and in good physical shape. I slipped on ice on a raised gas station island...crawled to my car and actually drove home about 5 miles. I got out of the car (stupid ...

Re: New Here

What's your ROM in both your knees? I'm 71 and have had two total replacements and a total quad tendon rupture (much harder rehab than replacements). I only have about a 110 degree ROM which severely limits my slide. I can barely do 3/4, thus increasing my SPM. I hover right around 33-34 for a 2K, b...

Re: Quadriceps Tear Recovery

CRK...I also am a "survivor" of a total quad rupture. I posted awhile back as seen above. I'll be four years post surgery in February, and am doing fine. I started rowing about the same time after surgery as you. It's the only cardio I've ever done for the last 20 years as I've had a knee replacemen...

Adjusting to erg with a new limited ROM...

Anybody out there with knee replacements or whatever that don't allow for a full slide? I'm about 105 degrees both knees and can do maybe a 3/4 at best. This increases stroke rate...I find now on a 2K to achieve anywhere near a respectable time I'm at about 34spm. Just trying to get some guidance wo...
