The paddypower October challenge is the distance covered in 30 minutes rowing from a stopped flywheel. There are no stroke restrictions.

My advice would be to contact Concept2 directly. There's clearly an exceptional problem here.
By way of reference, my model D, purchased in 2006, has coped with 80 million+ metres without the shock cord needing adjustment.
