Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Half Marathon today - medium pace for me, first half mostly UT2 then second half UT1. 1:28:39.5 / 2:06.0.

This was the 14th HM I've done and today was just because I was low on metres for the week. DF was 106, stroke rate 19.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Today was as follows: 2k warm up 8:44.2 at 2:11.0 5k speed test, just to check form. Aimed to sit at 1:51.0 until last 500 then speed up. A bit tough but managed to do it and ended up 18:25.5, 1:50.5 at rate 25. 4x500, 1r - this was actually pretty tough after the hard 5k but I managed not to quit, ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I'm falling so far behind with keeping up to date on all the epic PBs here so I'm just really stopping by again to catch up - and of course to say congratulations to the PB speed demons, including: Max - 500 metres of glory! Rich - incredible time on the 500 considering everything, including altitud...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

2k warm up, fast 2k and then easy 3.5k session today. Tried a fast 2k just as a bit of a fitness check and ended up with 7:00.4 without too much pain, at rate 28. Still working towards another actual PB attempt for sub-6:50 but it's taking me a while to get round to it. But, the good thing is that a...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

jsarche - I feel like my training is really all about growing my mental toughness and even though I've always enjoyed this aspect of sport the way it works in rowing is I think another level montecore - outrageously bad pacing to hit a couple of .9s, I know! It does pain me to see that but I'm worki...

0:36.6 200m 1:31.4 457 1872 43

0:37.1 1,000m 1:32.7 439 1809 42
Those splits are amazing, but that rating is insane! Great effort.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I'm still rowing away and managed to get in two 30k weeks on holiday because I took the erg with me and then after that managed to make up for the lost metres with a 70k week and now nearly back to the 50k weekly average target. Have just been plodding on mostly though but maintaining fitness rather...

Re: What's your 2k strategy?

I haven't actually done that many 2ks but am getting back into it recently. I've had a few HDs due to bad pacing but before seeing this thread I had arrived at what I believe is the best strategy for me and it's basically a negative split but trying to hold something like 1:43 until 1,500m or a bit ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I did 4x2ks today at varying speeds, including one where I tried to go as close to sub-7 as possible just as a little speed check and was very pleased to hit 6:59.9 on the fast one because I like hitting random targets like that. I was not pleased to get 8:00.1 on another rep! Working towards anothe...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Martin, Keith - thanks for your input. Based on recent training I'm all about going for the sub-6:50 on next go with 6:48 being my upper target. I've always 'enjoyed' interval training but on the erg it feels even more unforgiving and yes it totally warps time. I reckon it's time to give the 2k anot...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Did a 6x500, 1:00r today in between a couple of easy 2ks. My aim on recent 6x500s has been to hit 1:41.0 or below on all splits and I managed it again today, with 1:40.9 average and rate 34 overall (varied between 33 and 35). This is tough for me, although I could potentially go a little bit faster,...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I have done a few slower long rows lately but not a lot of faster stuff so I decided today to just go to 7,500 at 2:00 pace and then aim for 15,000m at the end. Ended up with 15,026 at 1:59.7 and all splits sub-2:00.0. I plan to re-focus on this distance for PB in the future but for now it's good as...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Thanks Alasdair. I'm not that keen to have another go. 30 minutes in one go is a long way for me as I don't do any steady distance rows. I prefer 5ks as it suits me best. I'm not fast enough for 2k and find the pace and amount of suffering involved in a 5k as my sweet spot. That seems sensible - I ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Decided to have a night off 4 x 6 minutes 4R and went for 30 minute TT. Quite pleased to get to 8016m and beat 8k for the first time. I don't tend to do any endurance rows so this was quite a tough workout. Much prefer 5ks. Set off on pace and tried to hold it. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 30:...
