Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Long, slow 'just row' today (which I never use) but it was a good sensible session and good to get some more metres on the board early in the week. This is low end of UT2 for me and for once I resisted the temptation to sprint at the end. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 1:10:07.6 16,073m 2:10.8 15...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Great work everyone - always good for motivation. I ended the week with a short warm up and then a 8x500 with 1 minute rest intervals. Target was to hit 1.42.0 or below on all 8 and managed it. Always amazing how a rest minute at the start feels like a minute and at the end it feels like 10 seconds....

Re: Am I any good?

I'd just add a few things. Your 10k time is not bad for someone new to it who may not have very good technique but you'll save a lot of time now if you try to get your technique sorted (post a video if you can and you'll get lots of great feedback). The other thing is that rowing at low rates (like ...

Re: Steady state programming

I'd think with "Recent workout of 8x500@1min rest (1:43 avg) and a hard but not all-out 5k of 18:25" then you should already be able to pull sub-7 without maxing out but of course you should probably try one - why not just try to hold 1:45 until 1,500 and then take it from there. I like to do a sub-...

Re: Long distance rowing

Can anyone out there give some advice on long distance rowing. What training heart rate should i be looking to achieve when rowing. What stroke rate should i look at. What sort of time should you spend on your rower. During lock down this looks like a good option. I'd suggest a minimum of 30 minute...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Good session Alasdair, a few more interval sessions and you'll get a new PB, all the best for that, you had a lot of bad luck this season! Thanks Martin - hopefully I'll get another 5k attempt in soon as well as maybe another one before end of season - need to retry 30 mins again soon. Just be care...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Last session yesterday was 5k warm up and a 2k cool down with a 6x500, 1:00 rest piece in the middle. I haven't done a max 2k this season but plan to in the coming weeks so am working back up to it after taking a hit with several bouts of illness since Oct 2019 that knocked me back. Right now, the a...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Fairly easy 30 minutes today, trying to hit 2:00/1,500m exactly for each split and concentrate on good form. Made a total mess of the final two splits, as you can see  Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 30:00.0 7,500m 2:00.0 203 997 21 152 6:00.0 1,500m 2:00.0 203 997 22 145 12:00.0 1,500m 2:00....

Just had a look at the logbook for this, Martin - 999 watts, rate 56!

Just a gentle paddle then!

Yes, just checking in on the faster stuff from time to time as I build back up and glad to say this wasn't a max effort even though it was tough.

Finally got the pacing of the 10k figured out. My former PB was 36:55, and I have tried 4-5 times lately to go sub 36, but not being able to. Today was finally the day, and happy not only to break it, but crushing it 😎💪

New PB: 35:24.1 :)
That is a beastly time! Amazing work.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Just did a 20:01 5k. It's not something I test, but I had a 20:38 from October that I wanted to update. Pacing was terrible and I ended up sprinting at about 250m at sub 1:40 to try to pull it back under 20 minutes. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR 20:01.3 5,000m 2:00.1 202 994 29 178 4:02.2 1,...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Still working on getting the metres in consistently and trying to be sensible so today was 5k SS, 2k fast then 5k SS. For the 2k I decided to see how easily I could go sub-7 with a view to working back to PB attempt before end of this season (my fitness took a hit after October last year because of ...
