Re: Damper setting - I don't get it

Wouldn't a better comparison with damper setting be comparing a large oar blade with a smaller one? With a large oar blade you grab more water so the boat goes further for the same pull, but to pull at the same rate takes more power. If you can't provide that power your pull rate drops negating the ...

Re: Surfing

I do find that rowing helps as part of a fitness routine that includes swimming and weight training. I combine a 20 minute, fairly intense row with intervals to really get my heart rate up, with a circuit that emphasizes core, built around squats and pushups. I set rowing intervals of 30s, 2 mins an...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

I passed 5MM today... Lifetime Meters: 5,003,569m I know it doesn't seem like much when David rows more than that every season and it's taken me years, but better slowly than not at all!! Congratulations! I think its a big deal. Did you do all those miles on the same erg? If so your erg should get ...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Pat and Hummingbird.

I've been there with the thyroid too. Mine was hyper. It was horrible. I had to take radioactive iodine to kill it off. Now I'm normal on synthroid and feel fine. It wont take long to get to back to normal.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

"Tom W has re-joined us on deck, instead of surfboarding alongside!" You must be psychic! TS Beryl did indeed produce good surf here in Florida and the center of it made landfall about a mile from our new house. It produced nice waves on the Saturday and Sunday am. The rest of the weekend I worried ...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

OK, after doing without it for a couple of months, I just moved my erg down to our new home. My new job is busy but I think I can erg a little for the challenge.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Off the erg for a while as it is not with me. In the process of a move to a new job and I am in a very small apartment until we sell our house and get a new one. Doing a lot of swimming which is sort of a primary sport for me. Will get back on the erg and contribute when life settles down.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Been off the erg for a while. 2 months ago I found out that my thyroid gland has gone ballistic. Kind of explained sub par performance despite good training and a few other things like tremor and weight loss despite consistent acts of gluttony. A month ago I swallowed some radioactive iodine to dest...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Thank you to our team captains Yisroel and Lisa. You do such a great job motivating us not just for the team challenge but also throughout the year. I know its a lot of work for you. Unfortunately I lagged behind my goal in the last few days of the WEC due to a non - rowing injury and some important...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

If its not too late I would like to aim for 150000m for the challenge. I'm going to have to put the hammer down a bit to get there but you all are great motivation.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Sorry for my lame rowing so far. In my defense I was out of town (NCAA wrestling) and feeling a little under the weather (seasonal allergies). But I promise to try to do better. Impressed with all of the rest of you. Great to be back in a challenge actually - its great motivation for me.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Back after traveling some. Boy 2 weeks off really hurts. Building back up. I know the March challenge is individual but do you still have to sign up? I can't find a place to sign up. I'm trying to keep some time and motivation to stay fit as I have 6 really hectic and scary months in front of me. We...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Thanks to Yisroel and Lisa for great captaining. Great rowing by all - I am really impressed! I really enjoyed the challenge and the motivation it brought me. I have joined the team full time and I am looking forward to the next challenge. I still have 8000 or so to log for the VTC as soon as I can ...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room

Took the day day off of rowing to go skiing with my son. Had a great day with very good conditions for NC but I got hit by a guy who had wiped out and was skidding down the mountain at high speed. He clipped me right on the outside of my left thigh and we both slid at least 20 feet. My knees are fin...
