I only drink water before my work out, and my usual breakfast (sandwich and tea) after.
If I do intervals, I drink some gatorade too.

Re: Damper setting woes...my aching back...
The point that made me reduce drag factor was very simple. High drag factor tolerates poor technique and therefore makes it nearly impossible to learn proper one. It helps in the beginning, but in the long run it screws you results. So it's as simple as this: what do you prefer - illusion of a good ...

Re: Weight Loss Success Stories... please share!
Your stroke rate was 34? That seems like it might be a bit fast. I believe that the s/m shown on a monitor at the end of a piece is only for the last few (average of 3?) strokes. It gives no indication of the rates used through the bulk of the piece. Since a lot of people put in a sprint (with unca...

Re: Bodyfat and erg performance
Paul's VO2max calculator tells me a 95kg athlete pulling 6:30 has a VO2 of 57.9. A 90kg athlete with the same time has VO2 of 61.1. 5.5% better for the lighter athlete. Working backward, if a 95 kg athlete lost 5 kg bodyfat without sacrificing any power, he should be able to pull the equivalent of ...

Just remember - you can always enter meters manually, so you can start log them right now.speedwell wrote:The one at the gym is pretty beat up but I'll get a card and see if I can make it work.

Re: How not to get bored whilst on a rowing machine?
If there was such a thing as a forum on dynamic ergs I'm certain that you wouldn't get a single post about boredom. No one ever gets bored on a dynamic erg like they do on a static erg. I have often agreed with your comments about static vs dynamic ergs, but this one goes too far. Any goddamned exe...

Powerlifters lay down to exercise, you know, for a bench press. Those weaklings!johnlvs2run wrote:If rowers are so strong, then why do they have to sit down to exercise.

Only if the brain in question is quite small.Rockin Roland wrote: The problem with static ergs is that your head oscillates almost 2 metres with every stroke. The brain is repeatedly shaken which becomes incredibly fatiguing.

Re: Question re March Madness challenge
I wondered that as well but until midnight March 8 it was still possible to row 24 more days in March thereby yielding 25 days total. If you check now (7:00am March 9 PST) you will see that the minimum to reach 25 is 2 days rowed to date Yes, you're right. My math was really poor here :) Thanks for...

Re: Question re March Madness challenge
I am participating in the March Madness challenge and am tracking the honors board. I am curious how Jack Nunn of Manhattan Beach CA has achieved one day more of being on pace than the days have elapsed in March. Today (March 7) he has hit the target 8 times. I know it is not a time zone thing as h...
