Re: New to Rowing...Want to lose 15-20lbs...suggestions?
@corkster - Let me know if you find a good way to coordinate kettlebells. I've always found them to make a lot of sense - but I can't get the motion right. It appeals to me in the same sort of way that rowing does - a broad based movement that would help with weight loss.

Re: New to Rowing...Want to lose 15-20lbs...suggestions?
@corkster - I'm not rowing the distances you are, but I had the opposite experience. I got myself up to 6,000M - then took not one, but (really through some bad timing) two days off. But it was a good thing. My hamstrings were so tight. My arms were fatigued. I'm now throwing 6,000 M off like nothin...

Re: New to Rowing...Want to lose 15-20lbs...suggestions?
Hi Guys! A question on "resting". OK - so yesterday I made my first 6,000 in one shot at a pretty good clip. Halfway through, however, I noticed my hamstring was a little tight. Near the end my knee hurt. Checking my log, I noticed that I took a day off the previous Thursday, but had been going full...

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
My worry is coloric density. It is so easy to blow a day's progress in 2 mins w/a spoon!

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
Yup. That's all I stock! I tend to actually prefer almond butter, which I'll grab some in the morning. Or I like a handfull of blueberries and a few walnuts mixed together.
All that stuff is fine but it is soooo easy to consume too much.

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
OK - Overdid it a little. Had a bit of almond butter and some blueberries for breakfast. Rowed my first 6,000. But I didn't do it first thing. I did it around noon. Finished a little slower - and got HUNGRY. Grabbed some soup with some hummus in it. Was doing fine. But....I grabbed a few teaspoons o...

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
If I can ask - did this change as you were ramping up? I notice you guys are clearly eating more carbs than I am - and I'm wondering about it. For me today was the broccoli, egg-white, spinach, and some soy stuff to taste. Lunch was - I'm embarassed by this but I was rushing - a veggie patty (again ...

Re: newbie, with questions
Hi! I was reading through this thread. I'm in my second week of rowing too. However, I finally read the Peter Plan and got VERY concerned. I've been steadily adding 500 M to each of my rowing sessions until I find my true fitness level. I just finished my first 5,500 and have every intention of hitt...

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
Hi! Corollary to the same question: OK - ASSUMING that you DO NOT eat before you row. What is your favorite breakfast after you row. I just did 5,500 today. Takes me under 30 mins. I think 6,000 is going to be my immediate target. Once I hit there I think I'm going to halt the climb for a few days a...

Re: New to Rowing...Want to lose 15-20lbs...suggestions?
First 5,000 M today - but did it first thing before breakfast. High hopes for the scale at this rate. Weight aside, I feel FANTASTIC. If I might ask, many people have posted here and elsewhere that there's a point where they really start to see weight reductions. Are you guys finding 30-40 mins the ...

Re: Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
Wow! Napolean! Tell me more. Here's my quick story. I used to be 325lbs. Dropped to low 200s on Atkins. But felt dreadful. Sprung back to 245. Then I got serious. I cut my carbs, adopted a vegetarian lifestyle (ETL, China Study...) and fell to 179. Great weight for 6' me! Lately, the holidays and so...

Re: New To Rowing....interested in Online
I think I'll buy one of those all-in-one jobies that are a PC knock off of a mac-mini. It's a new TV w/lots of HDMI's. I'm having my installer drag all the cables down. We'd had our basement taken out in unusual flooding. The kids are older, so I've build a gym down there (and I'm having an emergenc...

Morning Row? What to eat for Breakfast?
Hi guys! I'm very new to all this. I JUUUSSSTT rowed my first 5,000 at a stretch. I did it early in the morning. I had a few cups of coffee beforehand and some water. Had been out of the house driving the kids, too. But I noticed two things: 1. While I am NOT fast, I was noticeably faster. 2. Parado...

Re: New to Rowing...Want to lose 15-20lbs...suggestions?
Well....I have to say....I'm not seeing any true weight loss results yet. Just a bit of a blip. But, on the bright side, I'm able to knock back 4,500 w/an add'l 300m workout without much trouble at all. I'm taking the advice in here and now worrying about my speed too much. I set a pace boat at 2:50...

Re: New To Rowing....interested in Online
Hi! So, I think I'm going to do it this way. The TV I'm putting on the wall is an LCD/LED thing - 55". I'm maybe 5' away from where the components are going to go. I think I'll put a simple PC there and hook it up. Sounds reasonable? Is there a reason to use XP instead of Win 7? (To be honest - I'm ...
