Re: Where does a newbie start?

Watch this 2 videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSbFF-DOXZo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ura2mFCdvVs Focus on technique and how to row properly. Don't worry much about how fast/strong you row. Think of the rowing machine as some tool to build both physical and mental strength. Try to row at ...

Re: New erg feeling DF

Thanks a lot for all your replies. I assumed part of the pace decrease was on heat and different environment, but not all of it. After reading about the cord and so, something came to my mind. I had not oiled the chain. I was thinking I was suppose to oil it every few months or so but didn't know i...

New erg feeling DF

After 2.5 years rowing at the gym I just bought a new c2 erg. Erg works great but there is something that is bugging me a lot. My splits speed has gone down a lot. I assume part of it, around 3 to 5 secs could be heat (which also limits sessions length) but I also noticed an unexpected 7 to 10 secs ...

Re: Building endurance base / MHR

That's a relief Stu, still shocking but good :). James, I don't have a HR Monitor, just borrowed one of those i-watches to check it out once, so just like Stu says, I have to do it "by feel". And Allan, rowing the same session day after day is not a problem, doing it at the same time, well that is f...

Re: Building endurance base / MHR

Mmm I don't know if my heart is a mess but when I read you can row at 2:09 at only 134 bpm I just freak out. I just don't know if I should take it easier on the erg or if it's just a question of HR max. Let's say a steady hour on the erg is at 2:10 for whoever. When you finish it, do you feel deplet...

Re: Row then lift or lift then row?

When I do both I try to alternate Day 1: Squats+ Benchpress+Overhead press + sometimes deadlifts Day 2: 30mins-1hr rows And back to day 1. So they are not in the same day. That's what works for me. I'd rather not lift every day so I can rest it. The lifting day I may row a bit after the lifting in o...

Re: Technique Critique

If you reach forward without lifting your heels, your body will tell you how to do it. Eventually you'll have to set your body at the 11 oclock they told you as you dont lift them. Try it and feel comfortable with the movement before you lift them. Shoulders in front of hips at the catch. When you m...

Re: Tips for keeping the back out of the stroke?

God, it's not that difficult to understand. They tell noob people (typical gym rowers) not lift heels as they start cos they tend to put their hips in front of their shoulders and touch the seat with their heels. It's just a tip for starters to fix most common mistakes. They are not telling you that...

Re: Clueless

For goal n1 I'd row 1 hour a day with good technique. You don't need to do it straight away. Can start by rowing 10-20 mins a day and add 5 mins every now and then till you reach 10-12 ks or an hour. That and keep your diet as clean as possible. I wouldn't worry about goal n2 till late 2019 or even ...

Re: Stroke Length Experiment - VIDEO

I tend to touch my knees with my arms too. I think i lean a bit more to the front so I believe I touch them with the upper part of my arm (from the elbow towards the shoulders). I know I'm not doing it right but gives me the sensation that I'm giving myself room to rest. I know I should find myself ...
