Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

That's too many 6:59s in the past 12 months (6 I think) so not sure whether to be pleased by consistency or irritated by inability to get faster 2k = 6:59.6 Lindsay, that is a good place to be. For someone in their later 60s to be able to almost automatically dial in sub-7:00 is no small achievemen...

Re: do we need a heart rate monitor for sure while rowing?

Not sure why I'm chiming in on this topic. I'm a very long time endurance athlete, mostly running and cycling and now in my old age an erger. I've never used a HRM for training. Yrs ago, used one a few times for amusement sake and to get a chest strap to rub a big sore on my chest. I've always used ...

Re: Painstakingly Slow Progress from Back Recovery

I've been seriously considering getting a road bike. Not sure where to begin though or how much I'd have to spend, etc. I wouldn't even know how to change a tire if I had a flat. I'll likely sign up for some group rides and see if I like it. Mike, I imagine that Tucson has some great bike shops. Do...

Re: Painstakingly Slow Progress from Back Recovery

@Jim - I'm really elated to hear your progress! The fact that you're back to road biking is amazing! You've been through a lot. Much more than me with your recent back injury! When we subject our bodies to constant stress over years, eventually, something is going to give way. And backs are right a...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

First 2K of this season after last year's disaster. Not much, but is a start.

2K: 7:17.2 @1:49.3, 150DF, 30SPM. Ultimately, trying to get back to 7:00.

Re: Painstakingly Slow Progress from Back Recovery

Well, Mike, I may be the poster boy for back issues in the last year. But I wouldn't know if my experiences are relevant to what you are having. First, the back/spine is an amazingly complex system of vertebrae, nerves, & muscles that is constantly under stress. So many things can go wrong, especial...

Re: Runner needs advice - terrible rowing performance :D

What's happened here is that the OP got much fitter overall. I doubt seriously that a 90Kg male will be too weak to row. A little muscle toning was needed. Having done much running, cycling, and good bit of rowing, I maintain that running is the most important of the three in terms of being fit. It ...

Re: How much does 2K time drop in off season?

The main point is can one mentally accept the drop off? No doubt, real veterans understand the cycle concept, peaking, etc. Nonetheless, it takes a lot of mental energy to keep reclimbing the fitness/racing hill. Makes it tempting to not have valleys. Maybe it is best to just not know how bad it has...

How much does 2K time drop in off season?

Ok, so you've trained hard, done a plan, done intervals, etc and executed a SB or PB at a racing venue in Jan-Mar. But now you are in some kind of maintenance mode: less meters, more SS, fewer intervals. A couple of months later, you get a wild hair to find out where your 2K stands. How much of a dr...

Re: Questioning Luanne Suplick lightweight 60min WR

There's no doubt that questioning someone's performance claims is a dicey situation. Has to be done carefully, but common sense is a good guide. In case of erging, logbook entries are not the end all, be all of determining capability. Obviously, several examples have been given where logbook would n...

Re: Hip replacement tuned to rowing?

Hopefully, I can shed a little light. I've had two hip replacements [2013 (L), 2018 (R)] after I started erging in 2012 with two different doctors. Both were aware I was an athlete. As far as special measures - maybe. I wish I could say exactly the product that was used. I do know that the materials...

Re: Questioning Luanne Suplick lightweight 60min WR

All C2 results should be viewed with a gain of salt. I disagree. I think that bogus results stick out like a sore thumb. There have been countless records challenged and disallowed over the years. Virtually all record holders have a history and body of work that support a record. You get someone su...

Re: Questioning Luanne Suplick lightweight 60min WR

Two changes have been made in the 30-39 Female LWt WRs. 10k: Anna Lewis, 37:54.4. 60 min: Jen House, 14904m. Lorraine has a verified 10K of 37:43.9. Apparently C2 did not see this time. And she has a non-verified 60 min at 15,202. Obviously one of these records she already has, and the other is just...

Re: Questioning Luanne Suplick lightweight 60min WR

Of course, Lorraine Walker dominates the 30-39 LWT female field. When it all gets sorted out, within a year or so, she might well hold all 13 WRs in that category, even the 2K which has held since 2000.

Re: Questioning Luanne Suplick lightweight 60min WR

Bogus times appear at the top of rankings fairly frequently, although most are due to error or such - using none C2 machine, etc. World records not so much. In this case, Suplick's posted WR does not seem credible. Using a good predictive technique, using her 2K and 10K rankings from the same period...
