Re: 4x1k Trouble
MH, your numbers and words suggest both too much work and also that the drag factor you are using could be on the high side: - last two days have been 12.5k and 15.5k at 1:54.7 and 1:54.8 - SS at a 20 (for 1:54.7) - unable to push the rate much higher than a 28-30 - 5k and 6k test pieces are at a 2...

Re: 4x1k Trouble
though obviously it's easier to go at a higher rate in a boat (since the erg is static). ???? Rating up on slides or a dynamic is certainly easier that on a static, but in a boat it is a different matter. It takes considerable blade work skill to avoid having mishaps at high rates. As a side issue,...

Re: 4x1k Trouble
There is a lot of information you left out which could have had an effect on your workout. What was the rest between pieces? What is the rate you row your SS at? How frequently do you do interval workouts? What was the result of your last 4 x 1k, or similar, workout? In my prime I used to do a 12k ...

Re: What does "ERG" mean?
I've been told it's a Greek translation of "ergon, ergou" and "metros, metron". These are the words for "work" and "measure". Literally "measure of work". Makes enough sense.

4x1k Trouble
Hey everyone. I'm training, and this week had been going pretty well so far. The last two days have been 12.5k and 15.5k at 1:54.7 and 1:54.8, respectively--good days. But today I tried a 4x1k and I had two big problems. I wound up with a 1:43.8 across all four, but I should be much more in shape th...

Row Like Pigs
Hey everybody! Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on a copy of the 'Row Like Pigs' video? Only about a week ago I watched about 20 minutes of it, but I had to quit (to go to class) and now I can't seem to find it anywhere! Any help would be appreciated, I'm incredibly interested in seeing the...

Re: 2K Projection
Thanks! A few years back my PR was 6:36.8, but I've been running 70.3 Ironman and whatnot lately. I'm getting back into rowing, so I'm doing a lot of steady state (12-20k) every other day with either short intervals (8x500 or 12x500--the dirty dozen) or endurance intervals (4x2k, 2x5k).

Re: 2K Projection
The test was done Friday--I went to Philadelphia for the weekend (first time I've ever seen boathouse row...wow) and wasn't on the internet much. Time was 6:43.7! Not a bad starting point for what I'm trying to do! 3rd quarter was rough, I'll admit though. As soon as I hit 500m on the screen, I just...

Re: 2K Projection
The last time I tested a short piece, it was this past summer. I did 3x500m full go (3min rest), and kept it at 1:28.8, 1:28.9, 1:28.5. I'm 19 years, 190 lbs, and 6'0". I'll shoot for a 1:41, and I'll update the thread once I'm done! If anyone feels like contributing anything more, I'll be checking ...

Re: 2K Projection
I've rowed about 37k meters in the two days before today's 5x5:00 (32k on the erg around a 1:58.0 between two days) and about 5k on the water in a 2-, so that may have contributed to my poor performance today--it was not meant as a test, just as training. Including my active rest, I was on the erg f...

2K Projection
Hello, all! Just a quick question on what I might want to shoot for on my next 2k erg piece. A bit about my current numbers: Experienced rower, both on and off the water. Took an 18 month break, but still in excellent shape (Ironman training). 5k (one month ago): 17:47.3 40 min piece (three weeks ag...

Collegiate Times--Transfer
Hello everyone! My question, while fairly standard, has some odd circumstances surrounding it that I'd like to explain before I get to it. I rowed for my high school for three years and left it to go to an in-state university. This was a huge mistake. I had offers on the table from a few Ivies (help...
