Re: Training and smoking?

I quit dipping Copenhagen cold turkey on 12/12/17. I was up to 4 cans a day ($28) and had been chewing since I was probably 12. I was daily by the age of 16. I set a date about a month out, prayed for willingness every day until that day, then... quit. I was told the 1st 3 weeks would be the hardest...

Re: % HRR during 60min TT

Having said that, your HR profile is probably in line with where mine would be. How have you measured your max HR? My max is simply my max observed. I've hit 187 3 times. Twice on erg, once on SkiErg. I completely agree about it being a limiting factor. I'm telling myself my max is higher and that ...

Re: Stopped Smoking Want to Lose Weight

For me it was about setting specific goals. I quit chewing tobacco on 12/12/17 and wanted to lose weight. I can't just "lose weight", so I set a goal... complete the Pete Plan for beginners. I did a 48 min 10k, so I set a goal to do a sub 40 min 10k in a year (I took a little over, but I got there)....

% HRR during 60min TT

Below are the splits from my last 60min TT. I added the % HRR column. Does that look reasonable for a HR pattern? Would the following be a dumb idea? I was thinking about going out faster and trying to get my HR up to 174 (90% of HRR) much faster and holding it there until the last 6 minutes. Interv...

Re: Rating and splits.

At the moment I'm trying to increase my rating a bit but here are my ratings on some PBs, for reference 1k - 33 2k - 31 5k - 24 30m - 24 10k - 23 60m - 22 HM - 22. I used to rate higher but have slowed without meaning to so am working on increasing it a bit. We are very close except 1k. I'm working...

Re: Increasing stroke rate / aerobic capacity

Which video were you watching? I see he has quite a few. It's awesome that he put them out there. https://youtu.be/pXBzP9_7vZQ Thanks so much! That video rocks. I will do some "builders". He had mentioned "tapping it along" in another video and I used that today. Thinking of it that way made my str...

Re: Increasing stroke rate / aerobic capacity

I did an hour yesterday and focused on keeping the sr > 25. I started out doing 26-27 and got into a decent rhythm.. after 5 minutes or so, I noticed my sr dropping to 25 and at 15 minutes, it was hitting 24. I was reverting back to more powerful strokes. I remembered Henry's mention of strapless an...

Re: Increasing stroke rate / aerobic capacity

Thanks everyone. I think doing some intervals will help with stroke e.g. 10 x 1k with 2 mins rest. By then second half your pace may need to slow to maintain the pace, which is fine, but you will get more comfortable with the higher rates and over time your pace will increase too. It will need one s...

Increasing stroke rate / aerobic capacity

Other than putting in more meters, are there specific workouts I can do to help increase SR / improve aerobic capacity? I'm realistic and don't expect results overnight. Or, perhaps my sr is fine... I've listed recent TT's with SR below. Mine just seem lower than most others I see. Any feedback is g...

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread

Even more curiously I was just about to post that same question. If DLC Gidea Park don't shout out by Sunday it will be a straight simple unrestricted 2K. On the 13th of June Joe Keating posted this on the CTC fb page; ''DLC Gidea Park have let me know that they will no longer be launching boats in...

Progress. Prior PB was 3 months ago. Aerobic capacity is still an issue.

Re: Training slump... it finally happened to me... :(

I hit a slump at 1 year.

This seems weird, but I started doing 1 hour HR capped rows (60% HRR & 70% HRR) and kept trying to beat my best distances. I also bought a SkiErg. :D

I just keep an eye on my average split pace to see where I am at. I probably analyze the monitor too much, I rarely look away from the screen and the information.
Exactly the same
Haha same here... even thinking i might have OCD regarding this tbh :D

Re: 5km to 10 km training plan?

Right now my focus is weight loss and to increase overall fitness. I guess I do need to look at longer term goals aswell. Thank you. What is your Goal? Just doing meters, is just a matter of sitting down 40 min.... that will be 10k I lost 40+ lbs over the year, but I didn't have that as a goal. My ...
