Re: new here

welcome John spend a bit of time on the training sub forum above especially looking at advice to new rowers - lots of really good information this is a good thread with a lot of good ideas and links. Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

mon PM I was thinking an easier session tonite after hard 30' yesterday but Terry wanted to tick the CTC box. I had a @1:41.5 already and came straight out of a full work day but went along for the ride just to keep him honest and have a sharp workout. Went much better than expected - surprised to h...

Re: Forum Flyers

Terry wanted to do the CTC tonite so I went along for the ride even tho I was happy enough with V1.0 - not expecting to do well but managed to get another 1"/500 off so pretty pleased. I am tempted to have a go at <1:40 before the end of the month. Mine @1:40.5 and Terry was @1:50.5 which he was ple...

Re: Forum Flyers

Lindsay, your 20,000K is not too shabby for 12 yr. total. Believe FFs Haskell, Dickie, and Bayko also have big totals over decade+ time spans. FF Martin Stoeger appears to have the Red Shoes this year. Surprising volume for an amazing power athlete who doesn’t quite fit the meter muncher pro...

Re: Forum Flyers

Thanks for the tickle, Dave and Graham. Every picture tells a story don’t it. I started on the erg after retirement. I can’t imagine this time investment for anyone working 40-60 hrs per week. I do know of one Flyer member with 30MM+ lifetime meters. I think he took up the erg well before retiremen...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

The 4' also seems a bit redundant at the mid-recreational level (basically the same as a 1k), but I suppose it becomes a different beast as the level increases (elite level rowers get the best part of 1400m). I quite like the 4' but it is a similar test to the 1k - a hard middle distance. (but ther...

Re: Short and overweight - realistic goals?

Is it OK if I use this here as some kind of training journal? I somehow need to share my efforts/achievements with someone, and there's no one in my family or friends who rows and could appreciate it you will probably find the "What training …" thread here more useful and supportive than this singl...

Re: Is it possible to drop 1 minute from my 2k in 2 years?

don't worry about the final goal - way too daunting - just set some intermediate ones that are more achievable and won't set you up to fail reducing your training is not likely to be helpful though - you will have to train smart and hard. Even 20/30" in the next year would be great. you have the adv...

Re: Does a higher damper setting make you go faster?

This is still clear as mud to me. In order to bring it into terms I can grasp, someone please answer this: -My damper setting is 130. I am outputting 120 watts at 25 strokes per minute. -My damper setting is changed to 150. Will the following occur? a) I will output >120 watts if I maintain 25 stro...

For those wondering there is a one day challenge on Feb14 each year to remember a much loved erger who died in 2007 on this day (1402m)

Thanks Dave Lindsayh writes: Interestingly the 65+ in Paris was slower than mine in Dunedin! C. Cooper might be thinking similar. I suspect there are a bunch of guys much faster than me Jack who may have noticed too! Chris C, George Perrin (who only had to cross the channel), maybe Richard Steventon...

Re: Loose foot straps

My foot straps come loose during a session. I can either stop and tighten them or just live with it. Either way, it's very annoying. Does anyone know what the cause is (worn-out straps or buckles maybe)? Is it widely experienced? What do others do about it? For a practice session it's just an annoy...

Re: Does a higher damper setting make you go faster?

I've just entered the world of rowing, so I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question, but should I be working toward hitting a race distance at a higher damper? I thought I read it's similar to bike gears, and if that's the case the fastest you can go is at the top gears. Not a dumb question and commo...
