Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

BTW with a bit of marathon talk around my "erg buddy" Vincent Home did a FM in Brisbane on Saturday - 4:32:57.9 @3:14
The really special thing about that is that he is 94 years old (and pretty much blind and deaf) and it seems possible that no 90+ has ranked one before.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

@ Lindsay, i enjoy the HM especially in UT2 zone. Nice set of 500s Andrew - still getting better. I'm afraid my completely anerobic physiology conspires with my softish brain to limit my HMs to once every year or two - just don't suit me at all. There is no sensible way I can keep any serious dista...

Re: VO2max calculator is a joke!

FWIW I have been lucky enough to have done a full on VO2 max on the erg at the AIS at 65yo = 43.7 ml/kg/min (which is pretty good I guess altho they don't have enough data to really rank it). From memory the C2 table suggested way higher than that - maybe high 50s early 60s? Clearly the table is not...

Re: New to rowing and looking for a basic training plan

Bumped up Drag factor to 120 from 110. Def felt better in the moment and I will see how my back feels later. I would imagine that my maximal strength is in the top percentile for rowing (500lb deadlift and the 1:27 500) so I would think that I could utilize this more with a higher end drag factor i...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

What sort of heart rate should we be rowing the steady state sessions at? Also, for those with a monitor, how much does your HR slow after you stop? Reason for asking both. Doing my normal pre rugby friday recovery session. 30min at 2.05 ish. Stopped a couple of times to test HR manually (pulse ove...

Re: % HRR during 60min TT

Below are the splits from my last 60min TT. I added the % HRR column. Does that look reasonable for a HR pattern? Would the following be a dumb idea? I was thinking about going out faster and trying to get my HR up to 174 (90% of HRR) much faster and holding it there until the last 6 minutes.Yes, I...

Re: Help with goal setting

I think that before you decide on specific rowing goals you need to figure out how rowing fits into your overall fitness / health plan. Yes, it does matter - being tall (and strong) helps a lot on the erg. Good luck, and "enjoy" it. :) Yes exactly - what you want to achieve and how hard you want to...

Re: At what age did you notice recovery was impaired?

My understanding was that Paul was asking not about the way performance declines with age (which is a given) but whether the ability to recover from a hard session declines as well and if so when. Greg Smith and Sander have done all the work on ageing and performance. https://analytics.rowsandall.co...
