Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I started off with the hope of a 8 x 500m 2r as my lower back was a lot better after Pilates on Monday but after four reps it started to tighten up so I bailed out. All of them were r33 and averaged 1:37.4. I then decided with one min rest to do a strapless 5k, which was intended to be 1:56/7 pace,...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I think it's important to post our failures as well as our successes, so here goes: I must have broken a record of sorts today. Plan was a 12k steady. Body just didn't feel like it, so HD'd and tried something else, but turned out the body didn't fancy that either. HD2. Thought perhaps I should ran...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

:D It's OK for me to get direct/blunt feedback! I don't think sprint and distance results have to be about equally strong to be an allround trained athlete, but maybe that's a matter of definition. Two hypothetical examples: If I can do 1:15 at 500m and can't do 8k for 30min I'm a very strong sprin...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Martin, over here Speedskating is the number two sport, certainly in winter. Distances are from 500m upto 10.000m. 500/1k/1500 are seen as sprintdistances. Taking roughly 35/65 and 1min 45. The very best very often start out very strong. They always fade. Now is skating a movement which suits going...

1min PB - 381m - +6m :D Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 1:00.0 381m 1:18.7 717 2767 44 1:00.0 382m 1:18.5 723 2786 44 My legs were a bit tired after 10 consecutive trainings but the effort was pretty good, a bit too slow on the first 30sec I think. With better pacing and rested legs >385m should ...

Re: Age related decline

Good topic and one I can relate to :D I've been at this erging lark across three decades now 40s, 50s and 60s starting when I was 45 back in 2002 but seriously in 2003. Hit my best times when I was 48 but declined then only due to being diagnosed with bowel cancer. Had it not been for that, I think...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

10K at rate 20 yesterday - not SS and not hard - time was 37:44 Nothing too exciting but I forced myself not to do any burst and keep the pace and rate as consistent as possible the whole way which I did. For not being a hard pace it took more out of me than anticipated. Going to test something thi...

Thanks for the comments folks. I'm 52. See if you can access this graph https://www.flickr.com/photos/185090135@N04/48927287653/in/dateposted-public/ Nomatter what, after 50 everybody starts going to slow, how much depends on lots of things. For me, same age, recovery is the weak link. The mind sti...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

That's very strong, but I'm not sure if you should/could be faster (as you can do 1k without break at that pace). For example, today I did 10x1'/1'R at 400W (1:35,7) which was hard but not max, but I'm sure I can't do 5min at that pace. The same for 8x500m/1:30R, most people are faster than 2k pace...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Tried a short but intense workout last night: :30 sec on :30 rest - goal was to keep under 1:30 pace for the :30 sec on and do as many as I could do before pace fell below 1:30 - I got 10. Not sure if this was good or not but it was really hard. I have done 10x250 before at that pace but that was 1...
