Re: When is it time to take a day off?

You can only train as hard as you can rest, and recovery is subjective based on age, genetics, type of training, amount of sleep etc etc. I only erg 3 or 4 times a week and I do weights on two of my off days, and hot dynamic Pilates once a week, so in an ideal week I have one total day off, but I k...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Missed PB opportunity?! Did a 10K yesterday - was tired and had done a hot and hard CF workout Saturday so original plan was for a more SS row with a 1:55 average (still can never do a really slow/easy session). Started out faster than planned but then settled into a 1:55 pace eventually but first ...

Re: Focusing on the PM and your pace vs not watching and/or letting your mind wander

I watch the monitor most of the time especially during intervals or TTs - to the point I can drive myself crazy with it. However, one of my "distraction" tricks on longer rows is to look away for a certain number of strokes if I am in a rythm and I find I keep the pace and usually go faster.

https://i.postimg.cc/bD2168VD/20190719-073019.jpg Automatic pilot this morning. Not much energy, still not fully over this cold, and breathing was a struggle too. Tried to keep under 145 and failed Apart from that I quite enjoyed it and it was one of those days where the metres seemed to disappear ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I've been doing the opposite and using a heat pad on it Andrew... seems to be helping  Hopefully it heals up quickly, fingers crossed. [/quote] @ Anth, you can use both hot and cold treatments. :) Following a 3k warm up.Today was 5 x 1500 5" rest, Target from previous was 141:9 Todays Ave/ wa...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

This is a great result - average was 1:36.7 without the 7th interval! Thanks keith. 4x1000 next week @1:38. Ive never rowed 1k for time so it may not go to plan! I have stated many times that this is my most dreaded workout and I have battled with it but....I also think its the best 2K predictor an...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Joined a 30 min session on Rowpro, nobody seemed to have a specific plan so just decided to sit on 1.53 r23 with a push small push at the end to get >8k, went like this: 30 min - 8004 - 1.53.4 - 23 06 - 1599 - 1.53.6 - 23 - 139 end HR 12 - 1599 - 1.53.6 - 23 - 145 18 - 1599 - 1.53.6 - 23 - 150 24 -...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Thanks keith. I'll give both the 6x500 and 4x1000 a try in the coming weeks and take it from there. The loose plan was to test 2k in early august...can always adjust accordingly depending how i perform. Thanks again. Sounds good - anxious to see how you do. Remember to keep getting your meters in t...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

If you do all 8 with an average of 1:35 (assuming rest is 3:30) you should be able to go well below a 6:40 2k - you cant perfectly predict based on intervals but they can give a pretty good estimate. When I did my 2K PB (6:29.9) I think I did this workout right around 1:35/1:36 - need to do this on...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

After taking 3 days off (2 for a bowling tournament in a very humid bowling alley, 1 to recover because a humid bowling alley means tacky approaches which takes its toll on a big guy expecting to slide) I knew I needed to get back on the erg. I had been going about my distance pieces all wrong unti...
