Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

After yesterdays rubbish session I decided to spend a minute in the pain cave for January's FMMC. 5 mins warmup, smashed out 1min for a +5m PB. DF was my usual 120. I was on my work erg and forgot my cables so it's not verified but I have the screen shot. 1:00.0, 332m, 1:30.3@42 Previous was 1:31.7...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

30' TT - 8.107m, +48m :D After 5k at Tuesday at 1:51.7 pace I was very confident to get a new PB, goal was >8.100m, and my plan was >250W for the first 25' and then pace up. At this 5' to go I had a short wobble as I thought I won't get the pace to hit 8100, but I found a pace I could hold pretty g...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Just a 5k r24 this evening, bit of a make sure you are where you think you are session and a bit of a pace/rate overload session. Plan was to sit on 1.50 with a bit of a push at the end. It went like this: 5k - 18:13.9 - 1.49.3 - 24 1k - 3.39.5 - 1.49.7 - 24 - 136 end HR 2k - 3.39.6 - 1.49.8 - 24 -...

Re: Estimating 2km time from other pieces - any anecdotes ?

While I hate it - the 4x1K with 5'R is almost spot on to 2K+1 for me and I suffer like doing a 2K. I seem to be able to do 500m and 250m intervals faster than prescribed. The free Spirit calculator works OK for me depending on what two score I use - when I use a short one (500m) and a much longer on...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Yesterday I've planned to do 4x10'/1'R with the 10' subdivided in 4'@210W, 3'@230W, 2'@250W and 1'@270W. Kids didn't sleep well and I was interupted at 8:30 of the first interval, so I switched to 5k @ 30' TT pace to see how this will feel. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 18:36.9 5,000m 1:51.6 25...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Don't be fooled this was done straight after a failed CTC (probably 60 secs after). My confidence had taken a bit of a battering after this CTC so I need to try again tomorrow, but the 5k helped pour a bit of oil on troubled waters I settled into this one quite nicely but my CTC felt like I was row...

Re: Claw grip vs. fist grip on handle

Nearing 3M meters and something just dawned on (stupid) me. I have always rowed with a clawed grip (no thumbs) and often times my forearms fatigue on certain rows first. I tried something last night using a fist grip instead, right off the bat my forearms didn't fatigue, it seemed I had more power ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Sunday I did a 12K at 18SPM with a 1:53.8 pace - good solid workout the day after a hard CF workout. Yesterday I did a 2K warmup at 7:25 then a 3x 750m with 1:30R. I read about this one somewhere and it was to be done at 2K pace. I ended up doing it a little quicker but it was really hard. My resul...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Martin/Stu - yes, typo! 8x250m!! Hahaha, I didn't realise that 8x500 on 1r was circa 2k pace. This shows my patchy knowledge of intervals. It's still a really good session. https://i.postimg.cc/CZNWSZ1C/20200120-072749.jpg As I'm feeling better, but still not 100%, I decided on a change from...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

4x6'/4'R for me yesterday. After reading the interesting thread about interval pacing I decided to do a max last interval like I did some months ago. This last interval showed me that my last 4x6' efforts weren't hard enough :) Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 24:00.0 6,708m 1:47.3 283 1274 26 160...

New PB yesterday, because it's the first one I've ever done. :)
(Also the last one I'll ever do if my knees and tushy have any say in the matter  )

50 km
3:31:15.7

David
Very impressive! It's one thing to even complete 50K let alone keep a decent pace.

Re: Intervals effort and progression

The key is, if you go faster, it that really progression or is it more effort. After a while everybody will stall, and once well trained there is hardly any progress. Olympic athletes not seldom don,t progress at all over 4 years or maybe a fraction. And like NavH. says, after a certain age, its no...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

That's no fun, but at least you got some good meters in and finished the 30R20. And to see it positive, preparation for your coming race is much better than the last prep, one bad week is OK :) Thanks Martin. I'm feeling like I have just been dug up so I'm wondering if I'm coming down with somethin...
