Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I got a PB on my HM as part of the Solstice Challenge on Friday - took 26 seconds off with a 1:20:22 (1:54.2) Nothing terribly exciting but I was happy to get a PB on a longer row as I haven't had one for a while. As usual I went a little too fast to start but I felt good from 21,097 to 10,000 to g...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Have tried a few 3x750m with r1:30 recently and failed them all going for sub 1:42, which I should be able to handle. Anyway, been less tired lately so had another go today and nailed it. Also saw new max HR of 188. I used to rate about 30-32 on fast pieces but not have to really focus on rate othe...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

5k today. The original plan was to target 2:01 pace... However :D I got midway through and the 20min projected finish enticed me so much that i wanted to 20min it, or sub! Quite a demanding session tbh, especially with the very humid conditions!!! Very happy with it for sure :D (df122) http://i67.t...

https://i.postimg.cc/mz9ZhRc3/20190617-064316.jpg Whilst this looks fairly consistent it was a struggle for most of it, and especially from 40 mins. This was done a gym rower and I was pleasantly surprised that the drag was about perfect...the chain and seat weren't but you can't have everything It...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Did my first short interval session in a few months last night as I have been doing longer rows - was a very short session that I haven't done before: 250m, 500m, 1K, 500m, 250m with just 1 min R' between - my overall average was right at 1:35 but I have no idea if this was good as I wasn't sure ab...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Still a good workout Max even if the last one slipped a bit. Are you going to add on the extra 97m and make the challenge a HM? If I decide to row it in one piece, then definitely. I've had some disappointing HDs lately (lack of mental stamina, rather than physical, I think), so the 3x6k was nice b...

Re: Optimal Drag Piece Based

I usually row at circa 130 for more or less every session nowadays but I also found 115 to be a good drag factor for the ultra distances. When tiredness kicks in I found the lower drag helped avoid sloppy technique. It's very subjective so just have a play around and find what feels best to you. St...

Re: Rowing strapless...

Glad this question was asked. I rarely row strapless and when I do I really have to concentrate on what I am doing to avoid feet "floating" at the finish. I don't really feel I have excessive lay back or pull with feet during recovery but obviously I must be a little off on form. Its a good practice...

Re: Low resting heart rate

I had to have a ECG before a surgery some years ago and it came back abnormal for a low HR (38) and some PVCs. This turned into wearing a heart monitor for 24 hours and having a an ultrasound of the heart. Long story short, the PVCs are something I just have and didn't concern 2 different cardio Drs...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Yeah. I took just 6 days off last week. It took 25 seconds off my 5k time. (Some of that down to poor pacing) Anyone know whats going on with that? Is the training effect really that big? What physically happens when you stop training for a week? I have read that there's an estimate that you lose b...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Did a fairly hard 10K Sat. and then a moderate 5k after a little rest, then a moderate/hard 10K yesterday. Got some good meters in and pushed pretty hard - I keep starting out at a pace that would give me a PR and hoping I will feel like I can push for it as I get into the middle of the row but have...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Sunday race day in Qld. Turned out well - good crowd (about 100) from schools, gym, Invictus, adaptive and oldies new and experienced (all the way up to Vincent Home at 94 doing 5 races.) No one for me to directly race against but plenty to do. Some good performances though - Paul Jeffery (55yo) cr...

Re: Training slump... it finally happened to me... :(

After 2 1/2 years of solid, sustained effort on the erg I've finally hit a big slump that has lasted a couple of months now. Low motivation, lots of excuses, dust collecting on my erg. I've lost focus on what to try and accomplish. In the meantime, I've been doing some weight training about once a ...
