Re: Row then lift or lift then row?

Email me and I can send you the full text of the article that I based my "5 Keys" article on. Or, if you have an institutional subscription, you can access it here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21425890 No need to bother Will. Anyone can get the pdf, because one of the authors has put it on ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

No Summer solstice HM for me either :(. Finally paddled to 10k, but could do no more. My mind was not in the right place, at all. Also I've been slowly getting tendonitis in my left elbow from rowing, possibly combined with excessive pull-ups. Reduced the df to 100, but that didn't stop the rot. So,...

I intended to do 6 x 1k but I went off too fast and wanted to quit after 3 reps, but I'm happy with how it turned out in the end. I then set up for 20 mins steady paced and unexpecte...

Re: Rowing & Running Fitness

Hobbit, that's awesome. Keep up the great work. Thanks for the support! My "fitness journey" is pretty eccentric, compared with most of the folk on this fine forum. Coming back to your previous post about the Skierg, I did think about it, as I love cross-country skiing, but two things put me...

Re: Rowing & Running Fitness

"Ran" the French vertical kilometer championships today. It was a bit of a struggle towards the end - had to pause to catch my breath a couple of times . Still, I managed a new PB of 57:50 for exactly 1,000m of vertical gain, which was nice. I was disappointed to be 10th out of 18 starters in ...

Re: Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as electromyostimulation

There are certainly plenty of athletes who take electrostimulation very seriously, both for recovery and improving muscle strength.

The Rolls-Royce of electrostimulators are made by the Swiss company Compex: https://www.compex.com/uk/. To no-one's surprise, they are not cheap.

Re: Training slump... it finally happened to me... :(

I'm feeling pretty "meuh" about erging too at the moment. Let's face it, it's not the world's most exciting activity. For the last few weeks, I've just been trying not to slide too far down the "distance rowed this season" ranking. Here's my tip: I may have had a breakthrough today, because I finall...

Re: Arthritic knees.

Hi all, i've recently had results of MRI scan of L R Knees. My Doc informs me i have Patellofemoral degeneration and Chodromalacia of both knees. His advice was to keep rowing as i don't get any pain. Anyone else got nuisance knees. I've had a lot of this in the past, due to being bandy legged, IMH...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

But... started off feeling really good, brain decided that I was going to smash my 10k PB, so went along at 2.06. The body rebelled at this after a while, so the brain kicked in again and decided to have a crack at my 5k PB. Big battle between brain and body, resulting in a compromise pace that lef...

Re: Rowing & Running Fitness

2nd power hike of the year. The first with running shoes, as the snow melts. My increased erging, compared to a year ago, is paying off, as I got a PB on my 800m vertical climb test piece: 52:22, 20s off last year's record. More to come, as I'm not grooved into the movement yet. I use hiking poles, ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

New PB for 60min! +260m. Was aiming for @2:12 before I sat down, but going a bit faster felt fine, then I just carried on to the bitter end. 1:00:00.0 13,735m 2:11.0 156 835 25 10:00.0 2,286m 2:11.2 155 832 25 20:00.0 2,287m 2:11.1 155 833 24 30:00.0 2,280m 2:11.5 154 828 24 40:00.0 2,285m 2:11.2 15...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

We seem to off to a cracking start to the new season. Congratulations all round! I'm trying to keep up 10k a day for as long as I can, but it's hard to make up missed days. Yesterday: power hike with 800m of vertical ascent in 60min. Just a nice early season outing. Had to wear hiking shoes due to t...
