Technique feedback pls

For the past month I have been rowing strapless (5k and 10k) to work on technique and have been trying to change from opening my back, legs & arms at the same time to opening them in sequence. Specifically focusing on getting shins vertical and then hanging at the catch. I think I have made some pro...

Re: How long are your steady state sessions?

10k at UT1/2 trying to switch out of the shorter but more brutal plan I got from a web site. Done 10k last 3 days in a row and it does get boring.

Re: Rowing gloves for heavy sweaters

I just mounted a CBreeze on my erg and it is great at keeping a cool stream blasting me in the face while I row.
My wife uses the erg too but hates the CBreeze as it "makes it too cold." I still sweat buckets using it but it does feel nice!

Re: Noob technique critique request

working on hanging at the catch. Top is light effort, bottom is under heavy load so still have work to do under effort. I think i need to continue to develop more core strength to be able to get to a consequent style. I think my back may be opening early to compensate for core strength weakness. App...

Am I training too hard? Seriously

Ok so I have been using my erg since march and have built out a training plan that has me doing either 5000m or 2x2000m 5 days per week. This fits well into the limited time I have available as I have the erg in my basement. I have been making good progress and am feeling healthier - I got some dumb...

Re: 10k - need help

Reading your signature and post - you have lost 30lbs - that is outstanding. Congratulations.

You are making great progress on your times as well and your pace continues to improve - you will definitely get there.

I would stick with what you are doing given the results. Nice job!

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I hit a 5k PB this evening of 20:52.4. I'm making some solid improvements since starting 4 - 5 workouts a week in March with new PBs every week as I increase my cardio. This was just a regular row on the 9 week plan I put together and I'm a bit sleep deprived so I didn't start out trying to make a b...

Rowing gloves for heavy sweaters

I sweat like a river and so find myself at 3k m starting to need to wipe my hands on my shorts, etc, or the handle gets pretty slippery. I don't like the distraction on so ordered a pair of gloves from Crew Stop. Excellent product (although they do look kind of funny) and I no longer have any hand s...

Dumbell workouts?

Hi, I searched but didn't find anything - I would like to add some strength training to my regimen. I have an incline bench that my wife uses and some 10lb dumbells. I could buy some heaver or lighter as appropriate but don't have room for barbells or other equipment. Would anyone have a link to a s...

Six weeks in - first 2000m test. Was targeting sub 8m and got 7:52.4.
Built a 9 week training program to work on it!

Re: Noob technique critique request

Just did 5000m going full slide and working to slow back and arms engagement, also kept stroke rate between 22 - 26 SPM at least until the final 500m where it crept up to 27 SPM. Drag at 110. Scored a personal best of 20:55:4 for 500m! Overall HR was about 10 BPM below average at higher stroke rates...

Re: Noob technique critique request

Thanks guys! Appreciate the feedback. I will work on it! I think I am rowing at high SPM to keep my heart rate up as high as I can handle under the impression that this is good for conditioning. As I am only doing 22 minutes x 4 per week I am trying to make it "vigorous-intensity exercise" based on ...

Re: Noob technique critique request

Drag factor is 110. Damper on 4. Erg is 6+ years old but effectively unused until 6 weeks ago.
yes, 21' - 22' is typical of 5000m six weeks in.
Will watch videos and go for consecutive engagement of legs, back, arms.

Thanks!
