Re: Does anyone train THAT hard?

Think just looking at volume does not say much. Its a bit like adding up lifting volume. Say you do a max deadlift. Or you would do a 10 rep set at 60%. That 60% rep would be 6x the volume of the max rep, but we know effort like, the 1 rep has a much higher impact. I myself, combine row, ski and wei...

Re: Pulse vs Time vs distance?

Didn't think for a second i could do half an hour. And 20 seemed impossibly slow - BUT you were dead on. Hr below 140 and I could just keep going! (even forgot to stop) Next? Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR 30:19.5 4,488m 3:22.7 42 444 20 131 5:00.0 690m 3:37.3 34 417 20 121 5:00.0 775m 3:13.5...

Re: Pulse vs Time vs distance?

I hear you. Thanks My problem I guess, is that I used to row years ago and my stroke rate seems slow already - Stroke Rate 31 What pulse would you say is good to try to maintain? 31 is very high, think 20 at first for longer rows. Hf roughly speaking, think 70% of your Heart rate reserve. For that ...

Re: Training Plan Advice

Thanks for the advise James. I'll try those workouts next week and try and pace them rather than going all out attack. I think I understand the UT1 calculation....how does UT2 differ? I tried the 500m intervals again this lunchtime and managed to rate quicker but went off way to fast and got hammer...

Re: Pulse vs Time vs distance?

Age,51 height,6foot weight, 82.5kg and your general level of fitness.out of shape goals, weight loss, general fitness Really go for distance, and keep your hf a lot lower. This will mean going slow at first. Build the distance untill you can row 30 min continues. Given your height you are not much ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Yeah, I wanted to give myself some "cushion" but I would have pulled way slow on that 3rd interval as I was not even close to being ready. Will be more conservative next go to start and can always go faster. I saw a guy "jd" who did the same time as me last month and he did 1:32.5 so that was where...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I bailed on the CTC Challenge :( I am not calling it a HD since I didn't quit in the middle of an interval - I did the first 2 intervals and just was not doing well, no way I was going to hit the target I set for myself so I just did some light rowing and then threw in a 100M test at 15.6 just to g...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Bit of a scratch session. Tried to do some physio and then ran out of time. Took a run at 1k 1k PB. 3.14.6 Pacing was weird. At the end my legs weren't dead and and I had some breath left. Just literally couldn't go any faster for the last 300. Maybe need to try this a few times and see how to max ...

Re: Blood Pressure Monitor

Yes, found research also that got the same outcome.

Leaves me with a few questions. If you get used to colder conditions, does bloodpressure come down? If so, when those people get in warmer conditions, will bloodpressure get to low?

And ofcourse how does this effect health?

Re: Training Plan Advice

Ok...will give that a go next time....really struggle to go above 26-28 continuously but that's a good goal to have. Thats your problem yes, but its really important to be able to rate up. Key is often the turn, after the stroke turn right away, don,t overpower the last part and quickly start the n...

Re: Training Plan Advice

I've took today's session to start the Pete Plan but started with the intervals having done 10km yesterday morning. 6x500m/2min 1:49.1@23 1:50.0@25 1:49.0@25 1:50.0@26 1:49.0@25 1:46.0@28 It was a struggle after yesterday and I probably needed another rest day....something I rarel...

Re: Training Plan Advice

You are doing fine, but to get faster you need to start doing faster sessions also. Interval stuff, have a look at the Pete Plan, that would suit you.
Faster work will feel very different as first, you already can go faster I think, but thats will hurt.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Shows how some rest is very usefull at times. I keep saying, have patience, keep on working! Expect you to go a good bit below 6.20, and not talking about 1 second orso. Would say, believe in 6.10! @ Henry, i'll take a 6:10 with pleasure.I feel as though you are my personal mentor.Cheers. :D (hope ...
