Re: newbie needs help

followup for clarification: it's possible my understanding of one of the dark horse videos was inaccurate, or maybe i mis-understood the advice about rowing at a high DF for beginners. since my 1st post, i have not done that again. if anyone is willing, and won't be too harsh :-) take a look below ...

Re: Forum Flyers

Martin, just give it a go, don,t overthink it. Its mostly long, and pretty rapidly not fun anymore. Take one rep at the time from there. Mighty effort Henry especially for someone not enjoying it! I must be a bit weird because I actually quite like these sort of sessions - you can see the end of ea...

Re: Forum Flyers

Nice one, Henry. I didn't enjoy the session when I did it earlier this month. Thought I'd use the first one as a pacing tester, but at the end of it didn't feel like doing it again at a faster pace! I've tentatively put it into the training plan for the last day of June, but it will depend if it wi...

Re: Forum Flyers

Ctc done and dusted. Pretty horrible  Summer started over here. Warm 26, and getting hotter. Work out outside, so nowhere to hide. 20x 300 rest 1, dr130 rating 30, 28 strokes per rep. First 19 between 133.8 and 135.3 last one 129.5 18:51.7 134.3 Not used to this at all, rating is to low, but n...

Re: MHR question

There's no need for you to do a maximum hr test. Max will be whatever you can push it to on the day, and will vary somewhat depending on the details of the test you're using, your hydration levels, ambient conditions in the test area, sleep levels, what you had to eat at your last meal, your willpo...

Re: Rowing strapless...

What the hell is 10 mps ? there just seams to be people that add in meaningless units that just confuse the hell out of others. 10spm or 10 strokes per minute is way to low, no point doing anything below 16spm in my book. Your really not interested in speed down the slide during the drive, you woul...

Re: MHR question

I've been using one recently, but more to help keep me entertained than for anything else. :D I was never bothered about one, until now. Having a new gadget for the erg has definitely sparked something in me :D A “workable” method is doing a pretty hard session and end it with a sprint. This will g...

Re: MHR question

I suppose i should really do a test then, to make sure i get my numbers into perspective. I hear my erg calling meeee... get on me and get some flat out meters done... NOWWW  A “workable” method is doing a pretty hard session and end it with a sprint. This will give you a starting number, over...

Can my MHR be worked out without doing any actual testing?

Could i simply go by the 206.9 - (0.67 x age) formula? Or is this idea too vague.

TIA
 Hell no, there s only one way. And it needs to hurt a lot!

Two people can have 30/40 beats difference in max being the same age.

Re: Rowing strapless...

Do my warm downs strapless and have tried doing training sessions strapless too but only a couple of times. It seemed very alien to me, soon dumped the idea and got on with strapped in training. :x bizar, would have thought a guy like you would not hang in the straps with almost no higher rate work...

Re: Rowing strapless...

There may be some confusion here. Are we talking about a drive where the seat moves at 10 meters per second, or a stroke rate of 10 strokes per minute? 10 mps vs 10 spm I assumed that we were talking 10 strokes / minute, which for me would be very slow. I don't know how fast the seat moves on my dr...

Re: Rowing strapless...

Never followed the 10 spm system My back, knees and shoulders shudder at the thought of any decent pace workout done at 10 strokes / minute. Why, thats relative high rate, so relative soft on the joints. Shoulders and Knees would be pleased, lowerback is the weakpoint. Its all about the recovery, n...

Re: Rowing strapless...

I'm really learning to control my stroke when I row strapless and I have got it down to 1:45 pace. It feels weird to start with but that's a good thing as I'm obviously challenging myself. I'm not sure I'll ever build up to a 6k TT though!! Just practise. Never followed the 10 spm system, but have ...
