Re: Foot straps on timed trials

Been using the erg for nearly 20 years and probably 60 million plus metres and have done next to nothing strapless. Could never quite see the point. Well said Nick I totally agree with you, I've never rowed strapless and never will as it's a total waste of a training session as far as I'm concerned...

Re: Should I stick to BPP or jump ahead a little?

Completed week 2 of the BPP plan. The difference between my S/M on my interval days and my set length rows have merged significantly I rowed the 4X750M intervals at 24 S/M and the 5500 at 22 S/M. The 500M pace on the 750 was 2:03 and the 5500 was 2:14. The main difference between the two was the Wa...

Re: Foot straps on timed trials

I seem to have a real problem with stretching. I know I should do it but I have never (in 35 years of running) stretched two days in a row. I just can't seem to bother (even though I have heard it is great). I have heard it said that rowing causes a shortening of the hamstrings, not sure whether th...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

100m PB 13.6 (-0.2) not the PB I wanted, su 1:20 500m was the plan, but since yesterday I have a little cough and problems breathing through the nose, so 500m were no option. Back and legs felt very fresh, so decided to try the 100m. In fact it were 2 PBs, Lowpull of 1:04 is 1 split faster too 😁 Ho...

Re: Going Faster at Lower Ratings / Slides and Low Drag Factor

You have two option, drive faster or drive longer. Faster you say its getting close to what you can do. Drive longer, make the stroke longer, maybe not a good idea or even possible or most obvious more drag. Btw why do you limit your drag. If there is no real reason, the most logical way would be up...

Re: Difference between normal 30' v 30' 20SPM PB

Truthfully no one near as many times as an all out 30 minute. I suspect with consistent training I could possibly get close to 7700m for 30r20 TT...but still a long way from my 30m TT PB which I also suspect can improve a bit. I normally row at 27-28 strokes per minute. That is exactly what I thoug...

Re: Foot straps on timed trials

Apologies if this has been asked before. I have been rowing strapless for several months now since I noticed myself pulling on the straps to brake and not controlling myself. But of course this means I cannot get as much power and while I have continued to improve on the longer distances, I cannot ...

Re: Difference between normal 30' v 30' 20SPM PB

Don't like it at all, it's extremely hard work. The only consolation is that there's plenty of time to rest between strokes; and of course the boat goes almost as fast as when racing. Example  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4n91DaqAk9k Cameron is a hoot! Very entertaining as well as being an e...

Re: Difference between normal 30' v 30' 20SPM PB

can someone tell me why people like rowing at 20 spm? It is so slow and awkward for me. Don't like it at all, it's extremely hard work. Re: Forum Flyers

Is there was a way to see other people's lifetime bests or ranked workouts from different seasons? Stinks to not be able to see those anymore (I like to be amazed at how fast you all are and set goals for myself! ). Can you see those for someone who is a training partner? Try Rankedworkou...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Well i'll keep chipping away. 6.30 seems like a distant dream right now but if i can spend the next few months working on bringing that rate up then thats only going to do me good Maybe, but you just started, the early gains should get you going. And ofcourse how much time you can put in. Balancing...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Still very much newbie gains but i'll take it. Another 2km PB on the skierg. Wanted 1.42 today. Did 500 repeats earlier in the week to dial in the pace and this felt ok. PB by 8 seconds. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 6:46.8 2,000m 1:41.7 333 1445 41 1:40.6 500m 1:40.6 344 1483 42 1:42.8 1,000m ...

Re: Difference between normal 30' v 30' 20SPM PB

I would say, thats a good thing, the more weaknesses / untrained you are the more you can improve. The difference in your case really is to big, but focus a bit more on loser ratings and that gap will less. Search for L4 wolverine sessions. Those will be helpfull. Also sessions like 1 min on/off at ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Thanks all, and I now need to stop the rapid decline from a rower to a wallower. It's a very fine balancing act doing enough metres, not too many to not feel rested; confident enough to finish it, and not too confident to ignore the warning signs. Now I'm starting to transition out of my Steve Redg...
