Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

Week five in the bag and the workouts all felt fantastic this week. I've been doing the endurance sessions at 2:27 as mentioned and on the second one I didn't break 150bpm the whole time. I know there are a bunch of factors that affect heartrate but I choose to believe it's higher aerobic capacity ...

Re: Pete Plan - Hard Distance

Thank you for the answers and the great discussion! A follow-up question: At what pace should I do the hard distance pieces. So far I have been aiming for 2k+12. Depending on distance. A 5 at that pace would not be hard. A 60 min would be. Hard distance, How Pete it did, was going for a pb. Certain...

Re: Do I have any talent after 3 sessions?

Ultra sprints maybe 40 to 60 or even higher. I'm kind of curious, because I've seen the 40+ stroke rate referenced before, but I struggle to get a stroke rate above 30 spm without form going completely out the window so I can't even imagine it, how does one achieve a stroke rate in the 40s+? To rat...

Re: Do I have any talent after 3 sessions?

To give you some hope. There has been an Italian row who pulled a 6.02 at 69kg. There are also a few lightweight who got below 6.00, max weight is 75 indoor and 72 in the boat. You certainly can get below 20 min. Rowing is very much a trainingsport. “Blood” sweat and “tears. If you like it, go for i...

Re: Critique my Rowing form?

Hi, its going ok, bit busy. For myself, do train a bit, but only at home, not gym anymore. Was getting fat :D first time ever. So needed to do something. Haha, good to hear that you're training I've put some weight on since I got Covid. I'm doing at most 65% of the distance, but I'm still eating th...

Re: Sweating

Is it normal to be dripping sweat after 10 minutes of rowing? I am fairly new, but notice that I'm drenched by the end of a 20 or 30 minute session. Does this negatively effect my workout? I know that sweating is our body's way of cooling off when we generate too much heat - so it's necessary - but...

Re: Critique my Rowing form?

You start your stroke, by pulling your back, instead of first pushing your legs and keeping your shoulders forward and halveway starting to bring you back in. Second, at the catch, close the gap between your chest and legs, fould your upperbody more. Stay a bit more relax, you look a bit tight and ...

Re: Critique my Rowing form?

Hello, can anyone critique my form here? Unlisted YouTube link: https://youtu.be/rAOEOf7nOvw Some of my questions/self-criticisms: Shoulders aren't always depressed. Excessive layback? The back seems to curl when I lay back. Should I shorten my layback? T-rex arms at the release? This is partly due...

Re: Pete Plan - Hard Distance

Hi, I have been looking at the Pete Plan and I saw that he recommends "hard distance (~5k+)" once a week. What is the purpose of this type of training compared to UT1/2 steady state or intervals? Thanks. The plan is a Sharpening plan, a weekly test gets you used to pushing yourself. Ut work is abou...

Re: How to remove Damper Ring?

I have a Ski Erg and want to increase the drag and read that you can remove the Damper Ring which is installed on it by default. How do I remove this? I can't see anything in any of the manuals on how to take this off this and not sure if I need to remove the whole front section to unclip / unscrew...

Re: What bodytype is best suited for the skierg?

Compared to the rower you need to a bit stronger. The smaller upperbody muscle do the main work. You can also be a bit shorter, the stroke is less limited than on the rower. For the rest, being big, strong, and very fit is needed. Roughly speaking, most people but not all, are faster on the rower. V...

Re: Training To Break 1:14 - 500m

this is fascinating. thank you for sharing So the goal pace would be calculated at 90% of what the perceived effort of what that stroke rate would be....and you'd do a 1k at 20 then the next day at 22, then 24 etc up to his racing sr eg 38? then what...immediately back to 20 and start again...ideal...

Re: Training To Break 1:14 - 500m

A true 100% effort is very tough, but I think you should be able to do several 95% efforts, if needed even almost daily. The example you give about not being able to do 150m reps, you maybe are pushing to hard. Think you don’t need to do a weekly 500m at 100%. Better use that day to do a good 95% d...

Re: Nightwish?

I am writing this in English as that's all I know. I live in the USA and do lots of posting on the main site. I am a big fan of music and always listen to music when I row. A favorite band of mine is Nightwish and they have a female lead singer that is Dutch - Floor Jansen. So, was curious if there...
