Re: Damper setting

Hello, recently purchased a concept 2 and looking to develop my rowing. Previous experience was always at the gym for the last 10 years. Like every novice I'd turn the damper up to 10 and go for it. 2k around 7.15mins 5k around 18.30. Since looking into the damper I've realised my mistake and start...

Re: Struggling

Thanks for all your advice guys, I’m not happy with my numbers at all, clearly something isn’t right. I’m 5’10 but very broad. I will persevere and check in. Anyone else in the mid 50’s getting similar stats ? Any good recommendations or links to sites/videos greatly appreciated Maybe make a clip o...

Re: Started rowing again after a long break- how to get back to where I was?

I recently got back into rowing again recently after a break of several years. I am 5'9 female, 130lbs. I had previously rowed for around a year before I quit and my 2k PB was 7.54 @ r27. I just tried doing a 1k @ r24, as apparently that gives a good indication of what your 2k score will be. I pull...

Re: Relatively Weak 2km Time

In general, we could only speak of “relative” weak distance if a population would do the exact same training and then see how that would translate to the different distances. Of course this will never be possible in practise. And there is the secondary aspect that we, as athletes, are not the same ...

Re: Relatively Weak 2km Time

Nah, you are just like the op, you do lots of long work and close to nothing for your speed, so call it whatever you want, but trainingwise, you long distance is much developed. If you had put in the same work on your 2k as you had put in the longer work, you would have a very different profile. An...

Re: Relatively Weak 2km Time

I wish there was a database where I could look to see if anyone who has a 37:12.5 10km is also only able to row 6:59.2 in the 2km. What are the odds of that? It seems like everyone on these boards rows a 6:34 or 6:43 or something. :P You just need to adjust your perspective. There's a six second di...

Re: Combining Weight Training With Rowing Machine

Thank you all for your considered and open-minded replies. I can see that cardio and weight training are doing different jobs, and combining them is trickier than I'd imagined. I hadn't considered "over-training" being a risk. I am concerned that I'm doing no cardio at the moment, and improving my ...

Re: Relatively Weak 2km Time

Because you are doing them at very high ratings, which indicates bad style; and the bad style makes going higher for the 2k ever more difficult and inefficent. This is a classic beginner error that means you haven't learnt to row so don't know how to use your legs. If you watch your Watt/Rating rat...

Re: Combining Weight Training With Rowing Machine

Hello This is rather a premature question, because I'm still on the waiting list (7 weeks or so) but I am planning how I'll use the C2 Rower. I'm 52, 5'11, 88kg (190lb) and have been weight training at home for about 5 years (eg 5RM squat 110kg) I have managed to become stronger, but also fatter, a...

Re: Wife doesn't feel any leg benefit

Jon, Hopefully all this feedback doesn't feel to your wife like a drink from a fire hose. Play with things a bit at a time, and let us know if she thinks it's helping her. Good Luck Some things are not difficult to change. Drop the drag, get the feet up to railheight and let the heals come up. That...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Thanks, it's funny I use to live for the short tests now I feel I have sort of reached my limits there as power is less and as I get older and am not focused there don't see it getting better. I think that's why the 1K I still my best distance as I have "enough" power but increased fitness and it's...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Stu never thought of joining Jon’s Group? Think it could do wonders for you. Although you do fine I always have the feeling you could do better. I have thought about it Henry, but there are a few things that make me hesitate. I'm terrible at following a plan. Not because I'm arrogant and think I kn...

Re: Forum Flyers

For guys your build rate 20 work is very tough. If running is your main goal, getting a stronger stroke is maybe not the wise option. Running and rowing are both on the opposite side of the endurance spectrum, rowers being tall and relative heavy, runners smaller and certainly light. A good heavywe...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

I'd suggest that you lower your stroke rate over a period of 2 or 3 weeks, as it will feel strange if you try and change it too quickly. A lower rate will be more effort, so expect a subconscious reaction telling you it's not a good idea, especially as you'll go slower to start with. Yep, I am hear...
