Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Usually lack the discipline to do a properly slow (for me) session, so finally got my head round the Wolverine Plan and tried out an L4 workout. Based on 2k of 1.54/500, the prescribed paces for r16, 18, 20 and 22 are 2.22, 2.18, 2.13 and 2.08 respectively. I wasn't sure there was any point in doing...

Re: Training and smoking?

My mate used to smoke. He went away for the xmas break from work, and in about February I realised that he wasn't smoking any more. "Yeah, I stopped because it was affecting my athletics". So he just stopped. Like that. No baby steps. That would have been a bit over 25 years ago. He hasn't touched o...

Re: VO2max calculator is a joke!

So im new to rowing, but have been digging through the data and am just stunned at what rowers can do. I put my best 2000M sprint time into the concept2 VOX2max calculator and am right on the highest line labeled "Excellent". So at first I was happy. Until I looked at the online log book averages f...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

The stop press news is that THEY HAVE CLEANED THE ROWERS! Where once 10 on the damper meant a drag factor of 59, it's now 192. It felt so much smoother at 115 than whatever I'd previously been using, and getting the force curve to look something like it's "supposed to" was lots easier. You do reali...

Re: Training volume

but the "hurt" from rowing is something else! Something very addictive about it though. I've never known anything that destroys you like the erg can. I do allkinds of hard stuff, and sure, it gets me breathing heavy, but seldom ever feel that giveup thing! Nothing seems to hold a candle to the hurt...

World record is Mo Sbihi, a British Olympian at a ludicrous 14.54 or the best part of 490W.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Thought I should get some metres in on the SkiErg.

5k w/u on rower, 5k on SkiErg.

All very sedate, but not used to skiing any distance at all, so expecting some DOMS tomorrow.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

With the "do not race your training" wisdom of experienced rowers front and central in my mind, I sat down to do an hour at HM pace. 12.00 2759 2.10.4 ("ooh, this is easy. Bang on pace target") 24.00 2776 2.09.6 ("bit fast, but still conversation pace") 36.00 2785 2.09.2 ("hmm. I have no discipline!...

Despite all the wise words about 80/20 and all that, this is the strategy that got me my best times on the road, e.g. a half marathon in 1:18.
Wow. That's a serious time!

Re: Struggling to hit zones.

Follow hf, pace will follow, if you want to follow pace you are not doing the program. Fine but its something else. In general people don,t have the patience to go slow enough on the easy stuff and don,t go fast enough on the hard. Result, everything ends in nomans land. Guilty of this. It's hard t...
