Re: Age related decline
Clearly we are all going to decline as we age. I grew up in a heavily sports/training/health-conscious town but I had always measured my fitness more or less from a cardiovascular performance basis. How fast can I hike the mountain, how far/fast could I run or how was I doing racing bicycles was how...

Re: My experience w/outrigger pontoons
Thanks for the input and clearly there are shells more suitable to learn in than others but my point I guess is, pontoons turned pretty much any shell into a more enjoyable learning experience without tracking down or owning one of those stable shells. I’m 6’ 9” so maybe my higher center of gravity ...

Re: My experience w/outrigger pontoons
And I bet there’s sort of a stigma surrounding them where people think they are for para athletes and people so dramatically uncoordinated they can’t learn to do it in a shell. Not everyone has easy access to a club or good instruction. Maybe the sport wouldn’t be viewed as so esoteric if it was eas...

My experience w/outrigger pontoons
Granted it was only my 6th day on water (3 days camp at Craftsbury a few years ago) and now only 3 this wretched wet spring. But, it was the first time I’ve ever actually ENJOYED it. Before I pull the trigger on the better part of $300 for commercial pontoons I cobbled together my own that easily at...

Sculling instruction “vacation”
Any suggestions in New England on where to go for a novice sculling instruction vacation for a few days?
Couple lessons a day for a few days.
Craftsbury doesn’t offer what I’m looking for.

Re: Outrigger height for 6'9".
One of the biggest problems newbies face if learning on their own is making sure the oarlocks face the right way. On most singles the Martin included you can revolve the oarlocks 360 degrees (720 or more if you have a mind to). When sat in the boat the oarlocks should face away from you so when you...

Thank you both for your input!
Waiting on a Gopro mount for the stern of my scull so I can get some videos which I’m sure will provide some unbelievable comic entertainment.

Outrigger height for 6'9".
Pretty much a total noob except for a few days on the water at Craftsbury 4 years ago. Picked up an old Martin Alden Trainer and had it out for the first time yesterday. It wasn't pretty! I felt like the blades were going waaaaay to deep (of course it could be my tragic technique). It has adjustable...
