Re: After covid

Just had a follow up with my PCP at our VA clinic. Everything seems fine, and I'm in good shape "for a man your age" (I hate that). When I asked about the breathing issues, she asked if I eat spicy food, or have chocolate shortly before bed. Spicy is, of course, opinion, but I'll have a couple of He...

Re: Rests during UT2 sessions

I'll do an 'active rest', 2 minutes, stroke rate<18, less than 30 watts, 20 seconds for a gulp of water, then continue. I think the theory is to keep your heart rate from drifting upwards

Re: Starting from scratch to on the water in 6 weeks

Re: ErgData APK For Android without Play Store

From the good people at C2 "Thanks for your email and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I was looking into this to see if we had a version of ErgData available for use with the Kindle and unfortunately we do not have one that will work with this device type. There was an old version...

Re: Erging after Inguinal Hernia repair

I had a repair done in October 2023, open and mesh. Per the doc, I waited 8 weeks to do anything besides walking, never the less, hernia re-appeared in March 2024. I'm going to try to get it repaired (again) by a different doc at the hospital during the spring break in March. IMHO, the doc was a mor...

Re: Does every oar need a blade?

Would he get more power from the bladed oar if he put it in so that the top of his blade is at most at water level? (Sweeps the top of the blade is at the water line or slightly above. The oar blade floats there naturally, you just need to match that depth while driving.) Or does his boat design an...

Re: Does every oar need a blade?

I rowed a series of homebuilt dinghies to work for almost 30 years, generally about 1/2k each direction, so a bit of experience here! The construction of his dink precludes putting any real power into the blades, so he's using really short oars, with the rowlock about 1/2 down the shaft. He buries t...

Re: After covid

I got Covid right after I left the hospital for mitral valve repair and a bypass, which put me back in the hospital for a week while I gasped for air like a fish on the dock. Besides not being able to breathe, none of the other symptoms. Per the docs "there's usually a negative outcome following Cov...

Re: Recovering from sickness!?

Looking at your age, it seems to me that you don't really have any experience in getting a major illness, and going through the recovery process. A lot of us have been through a lifetime of various illnesses and injuries, and have a lot more experience in it! :) It just takes time, and you want to a...

Re: Heart monitor accuracy and afib

My afibs cause watches and PM to lock at 240, using a belt signal. Both work up to about 95, but over that I see multiple impulses on the watch (not PM), which don't show at all on a finger Oxymeter. So I stick to Watts. It is (or was) thought that aerobic HR Range used is linear with Watts, so no ...

Heart monitor accuracy and afib

I've always had issues with a three different chest type heart monitors, and a variety of receivers, going 'out of wack' on my heart rate. It'll show what it really is, then drops down, then nothing. May pick up, may not. Using electrolytic gel on the pickups, moving the strap above/below nipples, n...

Drag factor is usually between 125-130. Stroke rate is dependant on the session. Sometimes I'll do a 30r20, if I'm doing a 6k-10k it's usually around 22-24r.
I'd drop the drag to the absolute minimum (depends on how dirty the fan unit is) until you feel like you're healed

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Best wishes on your recovery. Some comments from this retired cardiac telemetry RN: 5 staples to cover a 6 inch incision sounds rather stingy. Your hernia operation was major surgery & they sent you home with only Tylenol? I would have expected at least Norco 10/325, every 4 hours. I guess they're ...
