Re: Are your skierg results similar to your rower results?

It's a question RowErg users are interested in once they start exercising on the SkiErg: "what progression should I expect?". To throw more light on this matter, I analysed the RowErg and SkiErg world records for distances of 500 - 5000 meter and ages from 19 to 74 years. It turns out that, regardle...

Re: Highlighted Seat Height numbers

Neat. How did you achieve this?

(Is that a model B Rower in the background?)

BikeErg maintenance

As I'm approaching 10 million meters on my BikeErg, I wonder: any maintenance that might be worth doing? So far the only 'maintenance' I have done is cleaning the handlebar and other parts following each sweaty session. Despite this lack of attention, the bike still looks great and everything remain...

Re: Are your skierg results similar to your rower results?

In general, athletes on the SkiErg are slower than athletes on the RowErg. This difference is quite pronounced; as of today 376 athletes have achieved a sub-6 2k on the RowErg. On the SkiErg only two athletes have achieved the same. With regards to rate-of-progression: The RowErg has a much longer h...

I would want to take a vo2max test but here in Italy they do it on a treadmill or a bikerg and I'm not good at it.
If you discuss it in advance, you might agree with the sport test folks to bring your SkiErg to the sport test lab, and do the VO2max test on the SkiErg?

HR ramp-up during short anaerobic bursts

Today I did the Valentine's Challenge (2 minutes and 14 seconds all-out) on the SkiErg. I am very happy with the result, but noticed afterwards that my heart rate stayed relatively low. More specifically, my HR started at 97 bpm and over the duration of the exercise gradually ramped up to 132 bpm. T...

Re: Skierg stroke rate

Useful insights Sally. I have now observed the same: higher powers with shorter strokes at higher stroke rates. About two months ago I did a 1k time trial on the SkiErg. Achieved 245 Watts at rate 45 (over 3:45.3 min:sec). Now with shorter strokes I did a 4 min time trial at rate 54. I completed 107...

Re: Skierg stroke rate

The insights shared in this thread made me reconsider my SkiErg style. Like many RowErg users who start dabbling into SkiErg territory, I also tend towards what is probably too low stroke rates for the SkiErg. I analysed my SkiErg workouts over the past few months. These workouts are mostly zone 2 s...

Re: SkiErg kicked my butt

Despite quite some training on it, the SkiErg continuous to 'kick my butt' as well. I acquired a SkiErg 6 months ago. Already in the first week I did a HM on it. Following years of indoor and on-the-water rowing, I thought I had a strong upper body. But shocking to experience how little wattage I ma...

Re: Rowerg vs skierg?

As always, the answer ends up to be "it depends...". You want to acquire the machine that *for you* best complements the BikeErg. Hence, a personal choice... I have all three concept2 ergs, and although I train mainly to improve my on-the-water rowing performance, of the three machines I mostly use ...

Re: P/AR all-time 2k leaderboard

One of the American Olympians is 40 and about to compete in her third Olympics. I'm not sure what her erg performance has looked like over the last decade+, but I do wonder when age-related decline starts for someone consistently training. That question is complicated by the fact that better traini...

Re: P/AR all-time 2k leaderboard

It's going to be really hard to get widespread buy-in for a ranking system that places Rich Cureton above Josh Dunkley-Smith. In essence, P/AR scoring yields a 'healthy ageing ranking'. As such it is intended for athletes who are well 'over the hill'. Athletes in their early thirties or younger are...
