Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Robert, glad to see you're posting regularly again. Have the slides helped you with the problems you were having with your upper back? I know my dynamic having a softer, gentler & instantaneous catch is easier on my body, generally. Yes, and no. The slides have taught me to drive harder (I think "k...

Re: HRM and pacemaker

1) know why you got your pacemaker. I have a dual-chamber Biotronik for bradycardia. Keeps it from going under 40 -- so training is no problem. If yours is for tachycardia, then as Mick says, you're going to have an upper limit set on your device. 2) know your device settings. for instance, I know m...

Re: Barefoot/Sockless and Strapless- How to best acclimate/train

I like merril minimalist running shoes on the erg. they're basically a sock with a very thin vibram sole.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

last two days -- 15k, 65min. easy, working on chest up, hip angle closed, drive with the legs on the slides.

think I'm finally over all the cold symptoms (sore muscles and fatigue lasted a few days after the snot dried up). maybe bike today -- zwiftland is calling.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

bike work was going well for the (possible) coming season, then I got a bad cold for a week. got on the erg yesterday and today. first rows with slides, but no problem -- I actually think it's easier to row with good technique on those because the movement of the erg on the slides tells you if you'r...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Halfway through a de=load week right now -- I've just got on the bike and done 1hr really easy -- avg 208w, HR 100 -- and called it a day. Last week was the finish of the first loading cycle of the year: M -- 2hrs with descending TR intervals -- 10min, 8min, 6min, 4min, 2min. 5min easy recoveries af...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

2 hrs 5min, 2000kj on the bike. looks like my power at low mmol is about where it has been around this time of year -- what I'm really missing is being able to sustain just under maximal lactate steady state for long periods, and I'm missing a lot over MLSS. next training cycle will be a lot of long...

Re: Becoming a better cyclist from erging/rowing?

erging will help you cut your losses if you don't ride your bike. if you're riding, then sure, time on the erg is an additional training stimulus, but the carryover is minimal, and vice versa. putting that extra time into the bike would yield more cycling-specific benefit. at the end of last summer ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

good: did 5 very easy 16spm minutes today with no upper back discomfort. will set about getting some slides at the end of the week. good: looks like the bike racing season starts in April (covid allowing). bad: no 50+ this year in the opening races. not so crazy about racing 40-somethings. bad/good:...

Erging makes you better at erging.

Riding a bike makes you better at riding a bike.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Upper back steadily getting there -- probably about 3 weeks away, to stay on the safe side. In two weeks, I'll look for some slides -- mainly as a means of forcing myself to go easily when I do row, as it will take me a while to get the hang of those. And, the emphasis now is on the bike, anyway. We...
