Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

Unfortunately, the pain in my ribs is not over yet and it had even increased after the previous rowing session. So I am going to have to put rowing on hold for a few days in hopes that it will heal quickly. As a replacement I will try to do some biking and running. Week 2.1 - 250m, 500m, 750m, 1000m...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

I don't know where you are based, but I encounter a new hurdle - the hot weather. Ah, there are so many ways you can spin the broken pieces and I'm hesitant to say "try this workout" over the internet however, if you fancy a little variety, Stu (Dangerscouse) introduced me to 30:00/20:00/10:00 (rec...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

Week 1 Day 3 [5 x 1.500m] I took a pounding in the ribs during a soccer tournament this weekend which left me with some muscle pain in that area. So applying a lot of power was difficult today. But since experienced rowers suggested earlier not to start too fast with the first interval sessions of t...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

Week 1 Day 6 - steady state 12.5k Today I literally did a lunch hour session: 12.5k - 1:00:34 (split 2:24). The longest session in the BPP plan was 12k, so I immediately took the bull by the horns to add 500m during week 1 of the Pete plan. Hopefully I can continue to build up the distances with 500...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

How many steady state sessions do you intend to fit in a training week? I quite like alternating between a broken and unbroken piece, but definitely more partial to the latter in the warmer weather. I am not young anymore, so recovery is a parameter. Ideally 3 sessions/week. I set up an trial versi...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

Week 1 - Day 1,2,4 and 5. * 2 x steady state + 2k hard distance After finishing the BPP plan I did a 2k trial with a 6k steady state session the days before and after the trial. I consider those as my first three sessions of the plan (one hard distance and two steady states). Since I don't have a pe...

Re: The Lunch Hour 2k Pete plan (following on the BPP plan).

Thanks for starting this topic DJ1972. I am definitely jumping on the bandwagon! I started rowing last October and 8 months later I'm at almost 1M meters on my rowing machine (957k to be exact) and also finished the BPP plan last week, so I'm in a very similar situation than you. I don't know yet ho...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

Well, after completing the BPP a couple of weeks ago, today was the day for my 2k attempt. Around Week 16-18 I suddenly and unexpectedly became interested in attempting this, but by Week 24 that urge had dissipated. And yet, if I'm ever going to attempt a 2k, now would be a good time, and possibly ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

Yesterday I decided to do a light steady state session leading up to my 2k trial. Seemed like a good opportunity to see how, based on heart rate, my cardio has evolved since starting the plan. Just before I started the BPP plan I did a 6k at 2:25 and my average heart rate ended up to be 147. It wasn...

Re: New member introduction

So my rower arrived today, was able to sync up with the ErgData app and gave it a whirl…and I am very excited and have some questions now. Relatively healthy, 53 years old. Are there suggestions for data I may be looking at more important than other data? I was taking (what I thought) was a relativ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

It did not got according to plan but the result is a lot better than expected. My legs had no energy at the end, and this is where normally I am stronger. Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 7:25.9 2,000 1:51.4 253 1169 28 167 0:55.2 250 1:50.4 260 1195 28 157 0:55.8 500 1:51.6 252 1166 28 162 0:55.6...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

A few weeks ago I did 8x500 2r at 2:05.9 with a final rep of 2:03.5, but 500 isn't 1,000, and 1,000 isn't 2,000. Nevertheless, I don't think that 2:06 is an insane goal, regardless of whether or not I reach it. I looked in my log, and a month ago I did 4x1k 3r at 2:09.0 average 3x1k 3r - after last...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

Week 24.5 [4 x 1k] The final session of the BPP plan and the last big test before my 2k time trial. In week 16 I achieved 4 x 1:59. In week 21 I collapsed after one rep and put in 1:59, 2:01, 2:05 and 2:05 in which was probably my worst session of the plan. The result of today was a bit mixed, with ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

I wonder how do you recover from 5 sessions a week, with all of them at least UT1, maybe even AT? I thought you also had other things to do? Do you have any tips for this? When I mentionned five sessions a week, it was for simplicity reasons for not making the post too long. In reality I do indeed ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan

As cited, at some point in the plan I also started to gradually increase the pace of my steady states (from 2:30 to 2:23 for the 10-12k That sounds like a lot (to me). Looking back at my own data, I've only increased my long SS pace by about 2s, and I wouldn't say that I was fit at the start. On th...
