Re: Natural Stroke Rate For Time Trial?

I do feel most comfortable at a higher rate (27/28) which also seems to be the most suitable for a TT but I'm not sure that it's optimal

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

@ Tom, hahaha I'll give you a head start mate. It will probably be another couple of months before I give the 2k a TT. I like to think that a 6:35 is possible but there's a big difference between thought and action! @ Henry, thanks mate. That's useful to know @ Anth. Thanks, It was a struggle for a ...

Re: Am I improving?

I think you should slow it down to 2:20 pace and then re-test yourself in 4 weeks with today's session and see if there's an improvement in HR.

There's no need to push too hard at the moment

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

@ Henry, I'm glad that 3k is when it should have bitten as it definitely did! Thankfully it didn't last too long. @ Mike, it was not pretty that's for sure. Felt great afterwards though. It was good to further reinforce that when you think you're done, there is usually still more to give if you just...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Thanks very much all. @ Tom, I had a wobble at circa 3.5km and almost let my bad inner voice win, so yeah it wasn't at all easy. It was closer to 3km the last time I tried a 5km TT just over a month ago, and it did derail me that time so there's some good progress there too. @ Henry, there was a ver...

@PBH, hopefully over time you will see rowing as a pleasure. I look forward to a weekend session with more time to spare.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

https://s14.postimg.org/sdc92q9fh/IMG_20180207_072520_108.jpg I'm having an enforced five days off erging due to a trip to Rome so I wanted to give a 5km TT a go as I was inspired by Tom's great effort. I surprised myself by knocking off 17 secs off my previous best albeit it's 6 or 7 years old so ...

Re: Am I improving?

@ PBH, if you haven't got a HR monitor i would try it at 2:18 (warm up pace) and see how it feels. You'll be at the right pace if it feels harder after about 10-15mins. If not up it by circa 2 secs.

It shouldn't be too easy nor too hard so use your intuition as to relative 'feel'.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

@ Nige, I totally agree with Rod. I only ever eat before a morning session if it is a FM or further and then I leave it a couple of hours before I start.

Re: Am I improving?

It is a common issue that people exercise more and their appetite increases also, so you're just maintaining the equilibrium. I always used to get up at 5am to row but recently have been getting up at 4:45 and it does get easier despite it seeming to be too early. It's only 15 mins difference after ...

Re: Slow SPM

Try and slow it down incremently. I naturally erg at 27/28 and have managed to evolve my style to get used to 22/23 but you just need to be patient and drop by it over a number of weeks. It takes discipline and it will feel like a backward step to start with but it will get easier. I found using a H...
