Re: Long Day Rows / Long Steady State Aftereffects

You're welcome Mike. I'd steer clear of the usual sports drinks too much rubbish in there that you don't need. Make your own if you say it helps i.e 50/50 OJ and water with a teaspoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt (if you sweat a lot). I have read that the glucose helps break down the fructos...

Re: Long Day Rows / Long Steady State Aftereffects

Mike, it gets easier with time. I did a 55km session on Sunday and then a very intense hot Pilates session last night and 16km this morning. It wasn't long ago that I couldn't have done all of that without feeling drained. It's a fairly slow process but make sure that you eat plenty of carbs; high G...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

After a very intense hot Pilates session last night I didn't think I'd have the energy for this morning but I managed a 16k session at 23spm rate with an average 1:57.9 pace; unheard of for me as I have never ever restricted my spm before. It was quite strange going 4-5spm slower but the time flew p...

Re: I bet i am not the only one

I'm definitely addicted to thinking about rowing. Every day I think about what I have done, what I'm going to do and planning nights out around erging sessions.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Rod, you deserve all the praise. Top of the world rankings and new British record by 202m??? Wow!!!

That 60 min record is easily within your capability and you're going to keep on beating it time after time.

Re: Pete Plan 2017

@ David, i have usually worked within a loose 14 day cycle to really test improvements for the shorter distances. Any less and you might be discouraged by the perceived lack of progress, and you can see some real improvements in 14 days if you are training properly Having said that some days you jus...

Re: Rowing and Lower Back Issues?

Zeekland, HJS has given good advice but I found my lower back to be an issue as I let my hip flexors get too tight so I had regular trips to the chiro too. I now.regularly do hip flexor stretches followed by 'spider man' stretch sometimes referred to as the greatest stretch in the world. I quite oft...

Kerosene, good result for your first row in three weeks. It's always tough when you have had time off especially after illness

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

55km session done. Quite a strange row today. Felt good up to 30km, first stretch as usual, and then it got harder and I started to have real doubts at about 36km. I then struggled through with a couple more rests, and a waste of 4 minutes messing round with my bluetooth headphones that suddenly ran...

Re: Heart rate monitor

Cheers Tom. The USB verifies them too but it's prone to malfunctions with formatting and the connection working loose over time, as I am generally too lazy to get up after a long session to pull it out so that doesn't help. ErgData sounds loads better and more intuitive too, Looking forward to my se...

Re: Heart rate monitor

Thanks Remo. I have been using a USB to record my sessions, albeit only done that without fail for the past four months, so I assume that ErgData app will do it all wirelessly? I'll give it a go tomorrow as I have downloaded it now. I assumed that it only worked with a compatible HR monitor I had to...

Re: Heart rate monitor

I use a Beurer watch and strap. Not sure of the model but it's circa £30 on Amazon if you live in UK, but you can't beat Garmin and especially if they are that cheap. I find them useful but I also notice I am getting too caught up in a specific HR range so I'm using it only for my ultra sessions oth...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Mike, I reckon a bit of both. Some days are just better than others too. Always good to see improvement and to have enough left for a decent sprint too
