Re: Advice on losing weight

Just remember that diet influences weight and exercise influences body composition. People often assume the reverse. Dr. Hamwi's method is a good guideline to aim for. The Hamwi method is used to calculate the ideal body weight of the general adult. For men, the Hamwi method ideal body weight is 106...

Re: PM5 did not record my timed piece

Where did you see V19?

C2 site says V18 is the most recent.

I have Beta V18.9 installed now but it has problems with custom/favorite workouts. Turns distance into time.

Re: PM5 Delete Favorites?

V18 and the V18 betas have lots of problems with favorite/custom workouts and the USB stick in general.

Scott says he is working on them.

Re: In the sub 7:30 club, looking to be in the SUB 7:00 CLUB

I am the same age as you zak. I went from 8:19 to 7:16 in my first three months of rowing. I tend to be a minimalist. I only row two days per week but they are hard workouts. Ten minute warm up then 3x1000 or 3x2000 with two minute rest intervals. I barbell train three days per week. I should break ...

Re: wanting to break 7 by end of summer

From Volker Nolte's book Row Faster, a high school male rower should be able to squat and deadlift his body weight and bench pull 0.7 of body weight.

Re: Do not download v18 for the PM5

Went from requests to remove and replace the usb drive to 1853 error codes then constant code 44s and then finally it wouldn't recognize the usb drive. I reformatted the drive and started over. Still receiving code 44s but the workouts are making it to the drive. I am not using a bluetooth device so...

Do not download v18 for the PM5

You are going to be pulling your hair out trying to get the PM5 to work with a usb drive. :x

The problems seem to be getting worse the more I try and use it.

Re: New PM5 Firmware 18 available

I am finding 18 to be less stable than 17 in regard to saving workouts to the thumb drive. With 18, on several occasions I have been prompted to remove and replace the thumb drive as the workout cannot be saved. After removing and replacing the thumb drive, I can then transfer the workout from the P...

Re: Adding Weight Training

Jack, On days you row, I would do your pushing exercises before rowing. Another thing for us older guys is when pushing, do not let the elbows get behind you. For bench press, this equates to a "2 board" press. You can also do floor presses. With pushups, put an object about 3-4 inches tall on the g...

Re: Adding Weight Training

Keep in mind that it's a bad idea to do any pulling or biceps work before pushing, especially when you get older. When the biceps long head tendon is inflamed, it can cause impingement.

A well designed program will be shoulder friendly and have pushing before pulling.

Re: does weight training and circuit conditioning really hel

From the "Rowing Faster" book by Volker Nolte, a National level rower is strong enough when they can: Squat 1.7 x's body weight for one rep Deadlift 1.7 x's body weight for one rep Bench Pull 1.2 x's body weight for one rep I am guessing you can achieve all of those now so getting "stronger" will pr...
