Re: Big change at top of nonathlon

hjs - Where do you think the break points should be? To continue your example, if the time for 33 is 6:10, 34 is 6:15, 35 is 6:10, at what point does the target stop being 6:00? Are you using a standard of 'this age or older'? And if so when does that switch to being 'this age or younger'? Don't wor...

Re: Big change at top of nonathlon

The person, who is land-locked, not an ex-athlete, who has ramped up on a indoor rower over a couple of years and managed to achieve in the neighborhood of 8500-9000 pts in nonathlon or the equivalent might feel a bit swamped in TJ's wake as he rushes past. I hope that our hypothetical person would...

Re: Help improving stroke output

I'd suggest dropping your stroke rate significantly more to 20-24 spm. When you're first starting out it's difficult to get your stroke right when you're going any faster than that. As you're struggling with endurance this shouldn't make any difference to the quality of your workout (you'll still ge...

Re: Pitch of the monorail

What you're seeing is entirely normal - as mentioned above there's supposed to be a slight slope, and depending on the exact machine that's generally enough to let the seat roll on its own (slowly, as you mention).

It appears that the original post was from a spammer, but as it's a pretty good question I've left it here :)

Re: polar watch fat burn/fitness

This is an often-discussed topic. The fat burning mode is a pace at which you're getting the largest amount of your energy from fat. If you go faster than that less of your energy will come from fat, as your body can't burn fat fast enough to keep up. While in theory it sounds like you should stick ...

Re: Crazy new 2k erg strategy - what do you think? Share you

Bob - I've always gone at 300 to go, and before I go any further I should qualify that by saying that my "go" is like most people's "warm down"! My reasoning is that, assuming for simplicity that my average pace is 2:00, the stroke that I complete at 1:55 after the finish line is a complete waste. B...

Re: Nonathlon recalibration

No criticism or complaining perceived here guys, just sharing of thoughts among (virtual) friends :) I'm 41, which it turns out is old enough that things start to ache just because they want to, so 88 sounds like a win to me!

Re: Nonathlon recalibration

Cyclingman1 - I agree it would be good to do the scoring at the start of the season. Unfortunately I can't collect the relevant data for a month or two after that, as C2 keep the books open for that long. And by that point what passes for the British summer has arrived and I'm not really thinking ab...

Re: Marathon

A couple of other ideas - unless you're really very good the marathon is going to take long enough that stopping for 15-20 seconds to stand up and stretch every 10k isn't going to ruin your time, but should help your ass. During those rests you can switch between the padding material suggested in 3 ...

Scoring update coming soon (I have to use up some vacation before the end of the year, and what better to do in that time?!)
