Re: Serious student rower looking to become better

Given your height and age a good bit below 7 min seems not asking to much. This is what I thought, and, that given the age and build of the OP, it just goes to show how blase experienced ergers get as to just how hard getting under 7mins for 2K is. I'm not saying that mark isn't respected but how i...

Model C PM5 retrofit kit

Just go and installed my retrofit PM5 and damn! the monitor is a foot above my head or it feels like it compared to the PM2+ which came down much lower. My neck was getting sore looking up at it over the course of a 10K. Why is it so high? Probably not the best thing to do but I reversed everything ...

Re: Training strategies for rowing as a 2nd sport

IMO if you want to strengthen the upper body and still put in quite a bit of miles on the bike you would be better off with a Skierg. It's about the complete opposite of the rower in terms of percentage of lower to upper body work. When I was biking a fair amount I found that my legs were always a l...

Re: Skierg pb thread

New and very slight 10K PB lest night. Dropped from 2:15.2 to a huge amount to 2:15.1 :o A whole drop of .1 of a second. Interestingly I had no idea I was even close. Went out for the first 6K at what was feeling a pretty easy pace, 16-17s mostly. Then with 4K left in order to have the time pass mor...

Re: Rowing types for short people.

My wife and daughter are both 5'2". My wife has pretty short legs too and neither have any trouble. I'm thinking you're sliding your butt/seat instead of moving your entire body. My wife had a problem with this when first starting out.

Your legs are supposed to do most of the work. But of course - it is mostly about being happy with one's training.
Not on the skierg. The legs actually are not used in the drive, only as support for the "drop". Not like true XC skiing where the legs are really used hard.

Re: To buy or not to buy?

I’ve been using the rowerg before December 25th everyday and loving it at home! Going to the gym and getting back to home was too long since I don’t live close so I decided on rower. I’m not a thlete but trying to get back into shape. Ive lost 8lbs so far and have 26 more to go! I love the quality ...

Re: Skierg pb thread

Great work John!

Steve- I have rotator cuff issues. My orthopedic told me "no overhead lifting". Haven't had any serious issues since I stopped doing overhead presses.

Re: SkiErg 2 Handles

I don't see why there would be an issue with the current handles. Using a normal grip your palms rest nicely on the "shelf". I have no issues with grip no matter how sweaty I get. I can actually have a pretty loose grip on them until the last part of the stroke. IMO straps would just get in the way....

Re: Skierg pb thread

Kind of dead in here. Anyway, new PB for 30 minutes. 6808m, 39 spm, 2:12.1. Still around the bottom third for my age group. Really disheartening that I didn't even move up one spot. If it weren't for tracking my times I wouldn't even bother ranking my times for the skierg. It really sucks that...

Re: I have bought my own erg

10 months a year for mine :P All 12 months here. Hawaii........ :D must be a sweatfest  Around the half hour mark in "summer" months the puddle starts to travel. At an hour it has escaped my patio. I'm on cement so not really an issue. I find it quite impressive, my wife and kids- not ...

Re: Any ergers been able to grow their arms?

Since adding the skierg into my weekly rotation I have a noticeable improvement in the chest, triceps, shoulders and lats. Pretty much all the areas that the rower misses.

Re: I have bought my own erg

As an aside, you can really make your erg happy by letting it go outside once in a while. I often let mine out on my balcony. A little bit of breeze can do wonders in keeping you cool. I sometimes let my fan go out too. Helps on hard pieces. 10 months a year for mine :P All 12 months here.

Re: HR zone / workout question

30 minutes is much too short to worry about burning fat. Your body will use what is easiest to convert to energy (glucose) and that is the glycogen stores in the muscles. Only after that supply dwindles does the body start converting fat into glycogen. This is simply not true. At low intensities, t...
