This morning: 20K erg 1:44 @ 27 spm is getting _very_ comfortable for this distance rowing. That's right on my target. 1:44 is top-end UT1 for a 6:16 2K. Interestingly, in my cross-training, when I work hard for an hour and a half or so on a stepper, I step at 310 watts, the equivalent of 1:44 pace...

What you can achieve in some training cycle, or perhaps at the limits of your ability, is decided long before you do a couple months of hard sharpening to prepare to race. If it is not determined at the level of your foundational rowing, then it is determined when your distance rowing ("pre-sharpen...

A 5K PB this morning. Did a 19:19.XX without a warm up. I think with a warm up and later in the day (not 0415 hours  ) I think I could crack 19.

A few more weeks with a few more Tabatas and regular intervals and maybe....

Saturday did my first 4x2k with 5min rest session. Really tough, plus it was hot. Totally drained after that.

My usual 30 min piece before work this morning. Legs were still tired.

You're correct. I did not pay attention (at least too much) to the threshold part :) But I'm still doubting anyone can remain truly at the "threshold" for an hour. Close maybe. 90% probably. Right at the threshold doubtful. If you can perform at that level for an hour you're probably not at the thr...

Thanks. I did one this morning after a medium effort 30 min row. I rested about 5 mins then did one set of 8. I was getting 11 strokes/20 sec. After the firs couple of pulls I was getting down near my lowest pull. It was hard, harder than I thought and a nice compliment to the longer row. I think I'...

Question on Tabatas

I see that the most common is 20 on 10 off for 8 reps. Does anyone or can you/should you do more than one of these 8 rep sets?

How about after another row, say 30min or 10K. I would like to give them a try instead of my normal interval session on Saturday.

Thanks for the help.

No one can perform at their anaerobic threshold for an hour. NO ONE. It defies the term "anaerobic"- without oxygen- Can you hold your breath for an hour? Didn't think so. :D Gene Why are you ignoring the term threshold? Also "anaerobic" is far more complex than just without oxygen. Bob S. You're c...

Plopping down and racing 2K has nothing to do with where your 2K score is relative to your potential. Where your 2K score is relative to your potential depends on where you are in your training. If you are done with your foundational training and now row well, you get about 12 seconds over 2K from ...

So I am again training to race. ranger I've only been reading this thread for a couple of weeks, but..... RACE ALREADY! GET IT OVER WITH! Are you really going to train for another 2 years, since you're 58 and are not planning to "race" until you're 60? Plop your butt down on your erg and race a 2k....

Might want to check out the Pete plan and modify it to suit your taste. It's what've sort of been doing. I've added over a 100m to my 30 min row in the last month. The plan calls for intervals twice a week. I usually do them once a week. If I'm feeling less wussy I'll do them twice. Gene what inter...

Saturday, 1k WU, 6x1000 with 3:00 rest, avg 3:46. Last one was 3:37 though. I literally fell off the rower and could barely move for the next 5 mins.

10K today at medium pace (for me) 2:02.7 today.
