Re: platform shoes?

Yup, it's settled -- new foot position is on hole #2. Still adjusting to it but coming to feel quite strong in the position. After some time I'll revisit all my sprints from this position and may even move up to hole #1 at some point. Did a session in hole #3 and my position felt immediately slack -...

Re: Heart training "dead zone"

Sure, I don't disagree re the warm-up bit. That said, my athletigen report indicates that my hr takes longer to come up during warm up and hard efforts. Who know's if their reports are accurate, but it does feel consistent with my lived experience. Middle distances, like 2-5k are rough for me, sprin...

Re: Heart training "dead zone"

Lots of good feedback from others here! A small side note from me -- I eventually gave up using the HR monitor on the erg. it seems my max HR on the erg is actually different from what I can achieve running, it's about 15 bpm lower for some reason. I concluded that max HR is somewhat arbitrary and f...

Re: platform shoes?

Like usual, I've continued to think about this initially ridiculous idea and explore why I've been feeling like it may be necessary. Enter a short written opinion by Sam Loch on the Concept 2 site about foot position: http://www.concept2.com/news/foot-position-primer If I take his expert opinion on ...

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below

Not to sound like a broken record, but it is clear to me that all meat diet is clearly making me stronger(and it's pretty darn cool!) Shawn, you live like a well financed monk and train just as religiously. Is it possible you would be getting stronger on a more traditional diet as well? I'll admit,...

http://i.picresize.com/images/2017/04/02/esjhc.jpg Yesterday's piece. A repeat of an effort 5 or 6 days ago. 30r capped. 165df. Very slightly quicker. No more easy gains here. To go quicker I'll need to develop additional strength and power. A fat lump I need to lose 15 lbs of blubber too. All the ...

Re: Good form vs. long distance?

Amazing how relaxed the first guy looks when pulling 1:37... he starts rate up and get tense when pushing the pace but that smooth roll at 1:37 is truly impressive!

Re: Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below

I'm with Shawn on the short distance work. Getting comfortable blasting 250m helps a lot, it also builds strength. I also found it helpful to practice my starts with sets of 6-8 100m efforts. I urge caution with technique here though, early on I did tweak my back. I eventually settled on a 1/2 strok...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

That's pretty much exactly what I do.

I'm usually still in OK shape after and can go on to do a few K at 2:10 to wash out the lactic acid etc.

I tend to bulk up a bit when throwing down hard, low rep, intervals like that. Wifie likes it.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Try 3 x 500 at about 85/90% or your pace, minimum 3:30 rest. 8 x 500 doesn't quite get you there, need to throttle back too much to push past 4 reps.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Good effort Tony!

Shame about your lungs... best to work up to these things. I do 500m interval work around 1:45, or something similar, with some regularity. Like you, I don't care for feeling burnt up after a max effort. Approaching max, but not hitting it, with some consistency helps a lot.

Re: 500m test (Some advice required)

I'm looking forward to seeing your time, Anf! Personally, I like to count down my strokes and usually start doing this with around 250m left. I saw another post about not blasting out the gait with a max low pull, I also think this is important with a 500m effort. A 100m is basically a low pull, 250...

Re: Use of back - force curve

Anyone think there is value in doing some sets of just back and arms, keeping legs stationary in a comfortable position, to build power maintenance through the right side of the curve? Definitely! I did this early in my training, because the first hard 500 I did, my arms just died. Heavy drag and l...

Re: Use of back - force curve

Anyone think there is value in doing some sets of just back and arms, keeping legs stationary in a comfortable position, to build power maintenance through the right side of the curve? I just tried a few strokes and came away thinking that if I increased the drag I could do some distance around 2:10...
