Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Tried a 2k today. Happy with it. Old PB was 7:12.9 or something. New 7:04.2 / 1:46.0 pace. Rate 29. DF was at 114 despite me last week talking about 120 feeling better. It went really well. Almost too well. Splits: 1:46.3 1:47.2 1:46.8 1:43.9 Was not well rested or tapered. Didn’t feel like death. A...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

You ofcourse have a good build for the erg, don,t forget that :D The fact you are not used to pain is also only positive, lots of room there, just like you say. Just try a few 2k s, don,t make it a big deal. Doing 8x500 is just as demanding. Thanks for encouraging words hjs and others. I know being...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Agreed. I think doing 500m intervals is probably good workout for me. But all in all I am relatively much better at short distances (my 1:30 PB for 500m was pretty bad attempt)

I dread full effort 1500s but I guess that is why I should conquer them.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

8x500m, 1:30rest My 2K pb is at 1:48 or so aimed at 1:47 This was meant as a bit of 2k predictor (plan on time trial in 2 weeks). 1:47 was clearly not fast enough as I was not ”questioning why I am I doing this by rep 5-6” like HJS suggests one should feel. Also was able to push the last rep to 1:40...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

New 10K PB: 39:29.4 (1:58.4 pace) 20 sec improvement over the old PB which was not full effort though. Did it at work place gym and didn’t get the details. Held 1:58 average till 8K mark but had to back of a bit to 1:59s and 2:00s. Was able to pick up a little on last 1000 and with only few hundred ...

Re: Deadlifts: hands starting to slip

I think general advice is to use overhand as long as it does not limit you otherwise. then switch to mixed grip for last sets. I think straps are fine too and allow for the symmetrical gripping (vs. mix) I just have never tried them so can't comment. Chalk also helps. 85kg is in the realm of not yet...

Re: Motivation to Erg

I would remind abou a few things: -3 weeks of one thing is not a very long perspective. It does not mean your coach will not mix things more in the future -One has control over one’s attitude and ability to do that by will is a huge benefit for happy and succesful life. -Resillience, commitment and ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

10,000 yesterday. Tried to kerp at 1:58 but had to ease a bit at 7k or so. It was a brain fart to begin with as a) I was going for a relatively light effort. b) have not done any longer than 30 min rows in a while (thus a) c)1:58 would have resulted in almost 30 sec below my PB (which is not a succe...

Re: New to rowing - question

You can watch tv but because of the noise you need wireless sweat resistant sports headset (bluetooth). I use bluetooth from laptop that is hooked to TV. Works fine but takes space. Rowing takes learning but it is not hard like skipping rope. Even the learning will give the good feeling of working o...

Re: Is it Possible? Sub 7:00 2k for Crash B’s

There were good threads about 2K strategies not too long ago. Browse back this section a few months. I don’t have the knowledge to advise in training but I think your question is quite impossible to answer (with any quality) without knowing more. Ie. Tell us more about what your teainibg looked like...

Re: New member just completed first 5000m

I too distract myself - often with netflux and blutooth headset. Read about drag factor. I am relatively strong (not really but compared to my other performance factors) but feel I have benefited a lot from using lower drag. Low drag and low rate mean that you need to have smooth punch to the the st...

Re: New member just completed first 5000m

It does get easier but the resistance is not linear. So as you speed up just a little the resistance goes up more. The ways to improve (i am a relative beginner too) are: -technique. Check videos, aim for nice round bell curve on the force display and especially learn to row at lower rates (20 strok...

Re: New member, hi all

Being fit is extremely relative. Looking at C2 rankings can be deceptive but they tell simething. People who consider themselves somewhat fit will not post embarrssing times as easily as times they are somewhat satisfued with. in 30-39 yo male (both lw and hw) the time needed to be in top 25% is 7:0...
